1996 Camry Tail lights not working.

I have a 1996 Toyota Camry, all the lights work except tail lights. I've replaced bulbs, checked fuses to no avail. Traced wiring in trunk till it enters interior, no breaks. (FYI) I recently replaced battery and altenator. What could it be?

SOURCE: 1998 Toyota Camry tail lights and backup lights won't work

Hello.

I have a solution for you, as I see your same issue in my shop quite a bit...There are two possibilities:

You may have a broken wire. This is a very common issue.

Open up the trunk lid, and look at the hinge on the driver side. You will see a wiring harness, in a plastic tube, attached to the arm that holds th trunk lid to the car.... Remove the tubing, and follow the wires towards the back seat area. You are probably going to find a wire that has been broken, from the many actions of opening and closing the trunklid. Splice and resolder the wire, and you should be fine.

The other issue is the tallamp failure sensor may have burned out. This too is rather common. Open the trunk lid, and pull back the inner carpeting on the driver side of the trunk. Locate a small box (it will be white or blue), on a brace. The box is closer to the quater panel sheetmetal. Remove the box, and take it apart. If it looks or smells burnt, you need a new sensor.

TAIL LIGHT NOT WORKING

It can be faulty tail light bulb or its issue with tail light control switch or its wiring's are short.

Check the voltage at fuse slot of tail light.Do you receive 12 volt there. If not, then it says tail light switch is not receiving power supply.

1996 Camry Tail ights not working

So its a wagon? or I dont know what S/W is. If the license plate light works, the light failure sensor could be bad. It should be in the left rear corner area and have 4 wires. Green, Light Green, Yelow/Green and White/black. You should have power on the Green going into the box, and the Light Green out to the tail lights. If you have power on the Green, but no power on the Light Green, then the box is bad, either replace the box, or you can just connect the Green to the Light Green wire to get tail lights operating.

My son has a 1996 toyota camry he recently was involved in an accident with minimal front end damage. He noticed on the dash that the burnt taillight indicator was on. I replaced all the bulbs for the...

Check the fuses both in the car and under the hood as front end damage usually cuts wiring causing the fuse to blow. There is also a check relay fitted behind the panel that the boot lid hinges onto, its really a pain to find but it has a link inside which can snap in the event of a collision, you can pop a drop of solder onto it to repair it.

1994 Camry - Brake Lights Work, Tail Lights Wont

Well Jennifer, it sounds like you've done all the things that I'd have done. Try for a bad ground next. Do the lights in the dash cluster work? They're wired together with the tail-lights (so that you know if the rears go out). There should be a ground wire somewhere connecting the body to the engine or chassis.Look around the rear of the engine bay. Good Luck.
