I have an 1986 toyota camry gas 4 cylinder. Backing out of the driveway an the car just died. Attempted to start the car back up and couldn't hear any noise coming from the gas tank. Dropped the tank, checked the fuel pump by powering it up remotely with a spare battery and the fuel pump works. there is not any power going to the fuel pump, where is the fuel pump relay located and what does it look like or what is its part number so I can replace it?
The typical placement for the relay is under hood, mounted to wheel well, it may be on either side. Look for rectangular plastic case about 3" w by 8" l with wires attached. To access look for clips holding top cover on pry clips out and remove cover. Relays are about 1.2" square, usually black, and can be removed by pulling directly up. Relay diagram should be on inside of cover. There will be more than one (sometimes as many as 8) and if diagram is missing have a helper turn ignition on and listen for a click to narrow down which relay it is. Often times all relays are the same and you can pull one out and swap it with another to see if pump will work. Good Luck.
On the 1986 Toyota Camry the relay is behind the glove box under the dash. Remove the two screws where it hinges to remove the glove box. The relay is towards the right side. There can be other reasons that you are not getting power to the fuel pump. Test the relay before you replace it.
