P1131 - Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Circuit Low Variance Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0174 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2

Clean the MAF sensor and check for vacuum leaks at the intake manfold or the injector O rings.

Trim is what the fuel system does to adjust for lean and rich conditions, this is normal, but when the system has to constandly trim rich or lean them there is a problem and the CEL will come

2003 f150 with a 4.6 eng. trouble codes po174 po125 po171 p1131 po136 po156 p1151

All of the codes you are getting except for one are indicating a running lean condition. This is most likely due to a vacuum leak or the pintle on the egr valve is worn out allowing exhaust gases to pass through all the time. If you have access to a monitor check the iac duty cycle as well as the dpfe sensor. If the iac is reading less than forty percent you have a vacuum leak. As well if the dpfe is reading above 1.13 volts the egr valve is bypassing. The last code you have is being caused by a faulty thermostat.

1998 Ford Contour 2.5 litre, 30,000 km. Started cold after sitting for a day in -20C temperature, and idles for little while then quits, and smells like gas. Idle speed fluctuated and surged up and down...

PO171 and P1131 point to lean codes on bank PO174 and P1151 point to lean code on bank PO305 is missfire on cyl 5

the lean codes is probably a vacuum leak or maybe a MAF sensor is bad or dirty

missfire is dependant on engine if a V10 it may be a coil actually pretty likely on the modulars not uncommon thats for sure
sorry forgot to add that its says missfire on #5 cant remember if that one is the first on the left or last on the left facing the engine vacummn leak could be those dang auto hubs got it stuck in the mud and they did not engage I need to buy some new ones took them apart to clean them out this summer

P1131,p1151,p0174

Hello,
P1131 = Lack of HO2S11 switch - sensor indicates lean, ( upstream heated oxygen sensor )
This oxygen sensor is located before the catalytic converter, ( refered to as UPSTREAM )

P1151 = Lack of HO2S21 switch - sensor indicates lean, ( could be up, or downstream heated oxygen sensor ) " Downstream ", meaning after the catalytic converter.

PO174 = System too lean, ( bank 2 ) The fuel/air mix ratio is bad.

These DCT codes are generally caused by a problem with the emissions system. The following items are a few of the most common items to trigger those codes.

1. Dirty air filter. ( very common )
2. Faulty idle air control valve. ( common )
3. MAF, ( mass air flow ), sensor. ( very common )

All 3 of the above can prevent the onboard computer from determining the proper fuel/air mix ratio.
The oxygen sensors measure to insure the fuel/air mix produces maximum power with minimal emissions.

I hope this helps you.

1998 FORD CONTOUR CHECK ENGINE CODES P1131 AND PO171. REPLACED 1 OF THE OXYGEN SENSORS, CHANGED PLUGS, PLUG WIRES, OIL AND FILTER, ALSO REPLACED AIR FILTER AND CLEANED PCV FILTER, RESET PC AND IT RAN GOOD...

sounds like EGR valve and sensor this controls idle speed when at a stop. the po171 is a burn lean or rich code need to know what bank 1 or 2. also check for a vacuum leak from one of the hoses.
