I have a '00 Alero and the drivers door won't open from the outside. The lock lever moves just enough on the inside when I use the outside handle to lock it to where I have to unlock in from the inside. I've tried to remove the linkage and all that did was make to door not function at all.

SOURCE: Driver side door handle not

your linkage rod to the outside door handle has disconnected , if you open up the door panel to access the lock linkage rods you will find the rod that is disconnected . There is a plastic bushing the rod is secured with if it is broken you must replace it , if the rod will not stay in place replace the bushing , hope this helps you out

SOURCE: Power door locks do not operate properly. When I

I've heard it can be done with some difficulty. You'll probably have to remove your rear seats, or at least the bottom seat portion, to get the inside panel off. Usually, the easy fix for troublesome door locks is a good cleaning, and a little light oiling. That one on the rear should be checked for operation when you get to it.

I have a 2004 Volvo s40 & can't open driver's door.

As the driver's door is the most used side it can be just worn or a part broken, best would be to remove the interior panel and check that the inside lever is still connected to the lock usually there is a thin metal bar that connects the two. If it is connected and you pull the lever and the bar doesn't move or only slightly this indicates you need a new inside lever, if the bar does move freely then you have to look at the lock mechanism.

Hyundai elantra 2008 passenger door won't open from inside or outside. The power locks work for all other doors and this one unlocks but will not open.

Their is a rod that runs from inside handle to a lever that pulls up on the latch mechanism. The outside handle has a rod that runs to the same place, what I have seen is the rod running from lever to mechanism come loose at the mechanism and neither handle will work.

One of the rear doors on my 2006 Audi A3 keeps setting itself to child's lock, so the door remains unlocked on the outside. What should I do?

You may have to replace the lock module on the door or the switch on the driver's side that locks the windows if they're connected to the child lock? Normally the child lock is a manual lever on the inside edge of the opened door.
Check your owner's manual. If the physical lever keeps moving you'll have to get inside the door and find out why it won't stay in position.

My back doors wont open

If your back doors won't open from the inside then the child proof locks maybe turned on. Open the door from the outside and look at the edge of the door near the lock for a small lever or screw setting for the child proof lock. Tun off the child proof lock and then you can open the back door from the inside.

The inside drivers door lever will not open the door, I have replaced the cable from the lever to the door lock a week ago because the cable broke. The lever worked the lock for a week and now the lock...

No idea here without removing the door panel myself to have a good look so i would suggest that as you open door from outside then it isnt the central door locking but a mechanical problem like the plastic clip has come off or wasnt fitted right and now its dropped out of the hole on the door lock mechanism

Both door locks do not work properly. I can only open the drivers side door from the inside. And the passengers side door will not open at all. This is on a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport.

Do any of the door handles inside or out feel sloppy (when you pull on them does it feel like there is nothing connected to them)?

If so that the levers on the latches are probably rusted up and sticking. Say for example the outside door handle lever that is attached to the door latch is stuck half way in the open position it will not allow the door lock mechanism to lock or unlock. The door will still latch and stay closed because the lever will not be stuck far enough to release the latch mechanism from hold on to the striker.

I have had pretty good luck removing the door latch (the part that actually holds the door closed) and soaking in penetrating lube and working all the levers until they move freely.

As far as the door that doesn't open I suspect it is stuck in the lock position and one of the handle mechanisms is in the partial up position. Again the symptom would be a sloppy door handle. That lever will need to be put back in its normal resting position before the door can be unlocked. This can be done with a slim jim. Once you have the door panel apart on the door that still opens you will be able to see the parts you need to move. You can then use that knowledge to move those parts on the other door that doesn't open.

If you don't have any experience with a lockout kit (i suspect most people do not) that that's the best way I can describe how you can do this yourself.

94 chevy lumina apv door will not open most of the time

since it is the drivers front door it could be the outside door handle , the rod that goes from the handle to the lock asbly or the lock asbly its self take the door trim panel off and then loos inside the door and latch the door with the door open. open the door with the outside door handle and watch the rod and the lever that the rod is pushing down the lever might not be pushing the lever down far enough to release the lock. If the lock does not open try pushing down on the lever and see if the lock releases if it does ck the outside door handle for cracks along the hinges of the handle I have found that most of the time that it is the outside door handle cracked and the rod is not moving the lever far enough to release the lock.

Describe your my Mitsubishi endeavor 2004 back door doesn't open Problem

Does this not open from inside or outside or both.
If it opens from the inside and not the outside look at the door opening near the latch. Look for the small lever "child-lock" just move the lever in the oposite direction.
If the door doesn't open from inside or outside I would ask has anyone try to unlock the car using a "slim-jim" if so they may have caused the lock rod to come off the latch on the inside. You'll need to remove the door trim panel and see the the rod has come off. With any luck it will just pop back on if the nothing is broken.
