2 wheel drive Rangers don't have CV joints. Maybe you are talking about the universal joints in the driveline to the rear axle? If so, you look for play in the u-joint when you grab the driveline and shake it, try to twist it, move it back and forth. If you see or feel visible play in the joint, play that would translate into vibration when spinning around while vehicle is moving, then the joint likely needs replacing. See? If you see side to side or up and down movement in the joint when you shake the driveline, the joint is bad. If it looks and feels solid, just the normal flexing movement when the driveline turns around, then the u-joint is good.

A two wheel drive ranger does not have any c.v. Joints.
It does have u joints in the rear drive shaft. Worn out u joints can cause vibrations at highway speeds, squeezing noises at low speeds, and in some cases a clunking noise when the transmiissin is placed in park or drive.
You can check them by pulling the drive shaft and ratting the joint. If it is stiff or loose than they are likely bad.

Approx.$250 in parts & rest is labor. Probably 3 to 4 hrs labor at most, even at 5 hrs labor, that's $100/hr labor. It must include alignment after the repairs, correct? Not sure what your going rate for labor is in your area. Probably wouldn't hurt to call around for a second opinion& estimate just to be sure.

Yes you can, If you have taken the front drive shaft off, you can even still drive with the CV joint in place till you want to remove it. You may get some vibration around corners till you replace the CV joint or remove it totally.
But if your going to remove it, might as well wait till you have the replacement so you only do the job once. I had a Bad CV joint on a AWD Chevy van and did the same thing so i could still use it, and then replaced the CV joint when the weather got better.

Chances are the linkage for the transfer case is out of adjustment try loosening the adjuster bolt and put the 4WD shifter into the position 4WD high or low (depending upon which position it's lockup in) then lock down the adjuster bolt, try to shift out of 4wd sometimes you need to go forward and backward with the vehicle to get it out of 4wd, when you get it out of 4wd you may have to fine tune the adjustment to get it to engage and disengage smoothly it's a trial and error thing keep resetting adjuster until you get the desired effect.

Yes is the short answer. Did you blow the gears in your front differential or you going to put a whole new pumpkin in? If you are replacing the entire pumpkin drain it first. Then make sure to support it with a transmission jack first. Remove the tires. Then remover the CV axles and lower the pumpkin. Your vehicle requires a 75w90 synthetic axle lube for a refill.
