Key will not turn in ignition and auto trans stuck in Park

Because I thought the problem actually had something to do with the transmission and not the ignition switch I tried using the "shift lock override button" which is accessible through a little plastic button next to the shifter that you pry off, as per the owner manual: If you cannot shift the selector lever out of “P” position to other positions even though the brake pedal is depressed, use the shift lock override button as follows: 1. Turn the ignition key to “LOCK” position. Make sure the parking brake is on. 2. Pry up the cover with a flat-bladed screwdriver or equivalent. 3. Insert the screwdriver or equivalent into the hole to push down the shift lock override button. You can shift out of “P” position only while pushing the button. 4. Shift into “N” position. 5. Insert the cover. 6. Start the engine. For your safety, keep the brake pedal depressed. Be sure to have the system checked by your Toyota dealer as soon as possible. I was then able to then shift the shifter to N but the key would still not turn beyond the accessories position. So maybe it is the ignition switch?

Key stuck in ignition on 03 grand am

Well, one thing is to make sure it's in Park for automatic trans. it will not allow you to turn off. Did you have transmission worked on recently? Could have a bad tumbler but check transmission cable first.
Hope I helped

What if jiggling steering wheel does not correct stuck ignition?

Pull or push the auto transmission gear selector slightly further in each direction from the "park" position. The key can not be removed unless the car is in park. If the gear selector is not in the exact spot needed - the ignition will not move to allow the key to be removed. Likewise, if the car battery is dead, you may not be able to remove the key until you connect to another car with jumper cables to energize the ignition circuits.

Good luck!

2005 GMC Envoy key is stuck in accessory position in the ignition with dead battery and transmission stuck in park. Will replacing battery help or is it security system lock down? If it is the security...

Jump starting the battery may be all you need. If this vehicle was not in park when the battery went dead and when you got in to start it it was dead. You then probably put it into park trying to start it.
But the issue at this time is if it was in neutral when the battery went dead the you changing the selector to park may not actually have placed the transmission in park. With electronic gear selection it actually need power to the system to place the transmission in park.
Without it really being in park the key may move to the lock position.
A bit of quess work here but I hope for you I hit the mark.

Cannot remove the ignition key

check the linkage on the transmission from the shifter. or not try wiggling the key up and down. if the cable is broken try to move the linkage on the trans all the way foward ( towards the front tires) with the tires blocked because it may roll. try it then.

92 chev truck, ignition is stuck in on-position,can't get key out

Sounds like a shifter problem. If the shifter is not completely in the park position it will not let the switch to be turned off. One thing to try is disconnect the shifter cable from the transmission and see ir the shifter will then move farther into the park position to allow the key to come out. Something is probably not allowing the lever to fully go into park not allowing the switch to move into the off position
