when the timing belt breaks on a 1995 Mazda 626 does it make the engine or motor go out

do you have the timing chain marks for a 1993 Chevy Cavalier? My husband just put a new timing chain on and new gears but now the car is backfiring.

The timing belt went out in my 99 Passat and for the life of me it is a royal pain to work on, Ive taken off the entire front end of the car except for the radiatior. The space is very tight if you dont. The timing belt is well hidden so make sure you have plenty of room to move around to get to it.

Yes, changing a timing belt is labor intensive. Also, you should know that even if you do change the belt yourself, if the timing marks are not lined up correctly you could damage your engine.

1997 toyota carolla at 112,000KM what are the additional maintenance requirements, ie timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, etc I have a generic maintenance log which does not provide specifics,...

Timing belt inspection is in order, and if the timing belt is replaced, then the water pump should be replaced also. I have inspected timing belts on many engines that have over 150,000 miles on them and found the timing belt was perfect. It is hard to say why some vehicles wear out a belt moe than others, but replacing the belt is good insurance. As for the plugs, I would just replace them. They will wear out sooner than any timing belt.

How often does the timing belt need replacing?

Both timing belt and chain can wear out. A loose timing chain can result in poor running, valve clatter, and loss of power, while a broken timing belt can cause your engine to stop running or, on an interference application, cause your valves to crash into your pistons.
Timing belts fail without warning and on some vehicles, are almost as hard to check as they are to change. In most cases, your only protection is to change the belt at the recommended intervals. The timing belt should also be inspected at every oil change for evidence of abnormal wear and tear. Your vehicle owner's manual will recommend at what mileage the timing belt must be replaced. These intervals range from every 60,000 miles to every 105,000 miles. Timing belt replacement is not cheap, but it is extremely important nonetheless.

U should be able to just replace the belt and it should start ok, just make sure u look for any damaged pulleys or the belt tensioner.

Water pump

It's time-consuming, as requires removing aux drivebelt (with alternator etc on it), and the cam belt. Well worth replacing the cam belt, aux belt and crankshaft oil seal while there. It's quite hard, but no special tools needed - except the Honda manual/instructions for setting up correctly (unless you mark the belt and replace exactly on pulleys).
