My 2001 duramax chevy trans is going into nuetral when i am driving it and it doesnt want to drop down to 1st gear when i stop .i have tried a number of electrical parts and with no luck . i even put another trans in out of a running truck that worked fine and it still does the same thing can anyone help me?

The transmission will need to come out and be torn down. The reverse shift fork is probably broken.

In most cases it is the fuel filter. I don't know when it was changed before, but it should be changed at least every 8-10 k miles. Make sure you change the air filter too.

It sounds like you may need a rebuild but it could be you have a valve stuck in the valve body.

it sounds like it is going out, first try trans x, get it at Auto Zone, also check the transmission mounts, drop the tranny pan and check for metal shavings, and be very gentle, or it will be done

Sounds like a bent fork in the transfer case. It is a common problem with your truck. The transfer case is a np236. If it just recently started doing this, the rebuild will cost around $800. If the 4wd has been acting up for a while, the planetary will probably need changed, which is another $200.
