1989 toyota camry heater hoses are cold

My 1989 camry heater hoses are cold while the car is warmed up and the upper radiator hose is hot. I checked the heater core mixing control valve. It seems to be operating normally. I noticed that the hoses on the valve are both cold all the way to the the connection with the upper radiator hose, which is warm to hot. There are no leaks Any help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance. Ralph

SOURCE: 1989 Toyota Camry LE won't start after upper radiator hose blew

you might want to try drying out the distributor cap and the rotor.they get water in them and they wont start.

SOURCE: I have a 1997 Toyota

It very possibly could be the actuator that controls the valve that allouws hot water to flow through the heater core. If the out hose is cold then there is none or not enough hot water flowing through the core itself. If you are sure the cooling system is full and you are sure the core is not leaking (you would smell the anti freeze if it was leaking very much at all) then the only thing left is flow and if the water pump itself is working as it sould then I would say either the core has something restricting the flow and that could be a hose that has a kink, or a blockage of some sort(rare but it happens) or the heater control valve is not functioning as it should so the valve isnt opening (I think its controlled by a vacume line going into the back of the knob that is on the dash. I had a 97 Tacoma V6 and the heater would literally melt you to the seat. If you check all that and dont find a problem then I would like to know what you do find if you ever figure it out. Hope that helps you at least have some places to start.

Sounds like you have air trapped in the heater core when you flushed the heater core. loosen the upper most heater core hose and run the engine untill coolant seeps out. Wait until the coolant has reached running temperature.

SOURCE: ONLY WARM AIR FROM HEATER,

The next possibility, if you haven't already thiught of it, is as simple as making sure there is enough water/antifreeze solution in your radiator. If the level is too low, your hoses will get hot, but there will not be enought water to circulate into your heater core.

If it is fogging your windows, you have a leaking heater core. Dash removal is required to fix it.

Why it take a long time for the engine to warm up?

You may have trapped air or exhaust gas preventing water circulation. This may be a sign that the cylinder head gasket is leaking.

Why it take a long time for the heater to get hot?

Check the thermostat to see if it is stuck open or missing. Replace it.

I have a 98 Bonneville, the heater/defroster is blowing out cold air. I drove around for 30 to 40 minutes checked the radiator and it was cold to the touch. could it be the thermostat

The dash gauges are notoriously inaccurate. But it is possible that the thermostat is stuck open. Does the upper radiator hose get hot after engine warmed up? Also feel both heater hoses-when engine is warm, both should be hot-indicating the coolant is circulating through the heater core. If heater hoses are hot, and you still have cold air, the temperature blend door on the heater case may not be operating.
Try a new thermostat and see if engine warms up faster and better.

Running hot think it is air locked how do you bleed air from it

Loosen the cap on the rad and run the engine up to operating temperature. Make sure the rad is full, and go for a short drive around the block to warm up the engine. Make sure the heater is turned on high and the fan running full. There will likely be some burping and gurgling going on as the air gets forced out. Keep checking and topping up the rad. Eventually it will stop. You should run it for acouple days with the cap loose to be sure all the air is out. After that, make sure the rad is full, close the cap and top up the overflow bucket.

Overheating

if it cools down at idle this suggests the cooling fan is working...check temperature of upper and lower radiator hoses if one is hot while the other is cold suspect thermostat...if they are equal...remove radiator cap while engine is COLD and start vehicle check to see if as the car warms up the coolant in the radiator is swirling or circulating...if not suspect waterpump

1997 Camry 4-cyl fan works but heat very weak - coolant level ok

Probability 1) The thermostat is probably stuck open, coolant is not getting hot enough from the engine to provide heat.

Starting from cold, allow the engine to run and warm up. While doing this, feel the upper radiator hose - you should be able to feel the coolant heating up to the point the hose is uncomfortably hot. If it gets that hot, then go to next step.

Probability 2) The heater core flow is restricted, not allowing full flow of coolant into passenger compartment.

There are 2 smaller heater hoses that run to the firewall. Are either of these hoses getting hot? Both sides hot indicate full coolant flow. Both sides cool indicate heater control valve not opening fully.

Hi,i,m a guest here .i have overheating problem with my toyota camery 92 v6...i got that my fan isn't working well , i changed it & the fan got better,,but it's not fixed yet & still i have...

How about the thermostat?

If your getting heat out the vents, the coolant is full, the upper hose is hot and the lower hose is cold that the t'stat is not opening.

If both the hoses are hot, the coolant is full, and you feel the fan pushing hot air than check the front of the radiator for debris build up. If there is no debris than the radiator could be plugged internally or the cooling fins may be severely rotted.

If the coolant is full, there is no heat out the vents and the upper hose is hot/lower hose is cold the water pump is not circulating enough coolant.

My radiator on my 1994 toyota hilux sulf is over heating just sarted in last few days. Temperature gauge fluctuates when i turn air conditioning on.how do i fix this

First check if you have any leaks in the cooling system , then check if level is correct(radiator and expansion tank , check level when car is cold , never open radiator when it's hot).
Then verify operation of radiator fan , if it's electrical fan it should comes on when temp. goes over normal,
if it's a clutch fan- it should pick up a speed and be more loud. If fan is not on and engine is starting overheating , check upper and lower radiator hoses.
If upper hose hot and lower hose cold or warm then you might have stuck close or prtially closed thermostat , difference between lower and upper hoses when t/stat works ok is about 10-15 degrees,
not really noticeable for hand.So if you don't feel a lot of difference between hoses temp. , and fan is not on , check fan or fan clutch itself.
If lower hose cold , replace thermostat and purge system.
If everything above is working properly , and it's still overheating , you may have bad water pump or head gasket.

Heater blows out cold air when on the warm setting ,possibly a plugged heater core

yes this is very likely the problem, have you check your cooling system is it rusty? if so the heater core is plugged, take the inlet and outlet hoses off the core at firewall and use a garden hose to clear it, then have the cooling system flushed if rusty.
