Last night the alarm went off locking the keys in the car. We had to use a hanger to get the keys out and now the alarm will not shut off?

The reason your alarm system is going off is because you used a coat hanger to open the door. This only proves that the system WORKS! It simply thinks that you are trying to steal the car - so it is screaming about it to tell on you!

To get the alarm to turn off, close and lock all of the doors (don't forget the keys :) ) Then use the KEY to open the driver's door. This should disarm the system and the security light will stop flashing and the horn and headlams should turn off and everything should be back to normal.

Well before receiving your response I had read to remove the fuses for the horn which stopped horn honking but lights still flash. After your response replaced the fuses, NO Horn honking and lights still flashing. Tried your suggestion but the lights are still flashing. Any other suggestions?

The only thing I can think of is : Did you stick the coat hanger down inside the door panel trying to get the doors open? If so, you may have broken the wires to the door switch. You might try locking the doors again and trying it from the other side. Also, sometimes it works to LOCK the doors with the remote FOB and then UNLOCK them with the key....or vise-versa.

I wondered that myself about damaging the sensor or what ever but I am not sure about the coat hanger, this is my daughters car and was guy that she was babysitting for that did it. It does appear that the horn does not work at all now. I will try again. I will try again and I appreciate all your advice.

Hi Fred
this looks like as you set your alarm ( with key as normal on lock) the immobiliser is in and you will not be able to start your car in the state if you can send me some more information, like year and cubic capacity i will find out if you can reset your key fob yourself or it will need to go to a dealer to be reset.

Opening car with key sets off alarm.

Open up your key and dry it first of all.
Then retry.

Or you could try using your spare set of keys.

How to disable alarm on 1999 dodge durango

Battery removal will not work. What will work is this: Use key to lock and then unlock driver's side door. I unclipped both horns at passenger side of engine compartment at front because they will go off while you are doing this procedure. I used this procedure last night after a rear passenger accidentally set of my alarm. I know this works! My vehicle is a 99' Durango.

My car is in a locked garage, no sign of entry at all. Last night around mid night my horn and flashers went off repeatedly like a car alarm. When I went to disconnect the battery, it stopped. What is...

This is a malfunction of the alarm system, possible that the processor was triggered. if there was some rodents or creatures that had triggered then it would have gone on till you went around to switch off.... it works for a time period.
Check the leads of the alarm unit, Then ARM the car and try to shake the car to see if there is any reaction to confirm.

1998 Vw Jetta opened door with Key alarm sounded cant shut off

I had the same problem. I had lost the wiring connection between the drivers door lock (where the key goes in) and the alarm. The only way to fix this was to rewire the connection.

I am not 100% sure what breaks the connection - probably wear and tear on the wire with the door opening and closing.

This has happened to me twice in the last 5 years.

Car won't start.

First lock your car. Then unhook the battery for a couple minutes and then put back on. Unlock just the drivers door with the key (not using power locks) and try to start car.
