1991 toyota corolla gts, acceleration hesitaion

My 1991 corolla gts runs great when warm, and when i first start it; but while it warms up it hesitates tremendously when i accelerate. the hesitation is more severe the more i press in the gas. the problem only occurs between cold and normal operating temp. i've changed the spark plugs and the old ones weren't fouled in any way. BTW it is a 1.6L twin cam 16 valve fuel injected engine.

I have the same problem. In the morning/evening when i'm driving to/from school my car jerks back and fourth almost like i'm pressing on the gas and releasing. But when the car warms up it goes away, this started happening about 3 weeks ago. Also my ac is only cold while i'm driving when i stop at a traffic light it gets hot, is this normal for '91 corollas?

I had the same problem last winter. It went away in the summer and never came back this winter. I had considered changing the throttle position sensor or the coolant temp sensor??? but never got around to it. The car runs great now.

My 1991 Toyota Corolla hesitates while stopped and it's getting worse. I just replaced the fuel pump and fuel bracket 2 months ago.

Your harmonic ballancer is shot.
With the engine off , key out of the ignition... grasp the belt that goes down to the engine crank and see if you can make it turn a little ... if you can , you will see that the outside of that bottom most pully turns ... while the crank does not...
Replace the harmonic ballancer with a new unit... ( used ones are 90% junk by the time you get em from a bone yard...)

1991 toyota 4runner v6 auto rough start

Possibly a leaking head gasket. Water/antifreeze seeps into the cyllinder when it cools off, and then it won't fire properly until the coolant is blown out the exhaust when you start it. Let it warm up with the rad cap off. If you see bubbles continuously coming up to the filler hole, you have a head gasket problem. Do you have to add coolant monthly, or weekly?
If you're lucky, it could be just a spark plug that doesn't want to do anything until it warms up, or it could be a valve.

1991 Toyota Corolla loud and sluggish

You need to do a compression test on the engine cylinders. It appears one of the cylinders is not firing and dragging the rest of the engine down in power. The compression test will show if one of the cylinders has a problem.

Runs poorly while warming up

auto choke controled by the hot water system, sounds like someone has disconnected the pipes somewhere along the line as they were leaking,on or around the carb should be a round thing with two water pipes and inside is a bi-metal strip, which is most likely working but with no water through it or through the inlet manifold to preheat the petrol vapour hence your problem.soloution buy a small engined europen type vehiclelike a kangoo or berlingo and recycle the gas guzzler you have now.
