Transmission service i have a 96 accord and was wondering if u would know how to service it? i.e. how to drain fluid and replace filter... their is no removeable pan that i can see... it looks like a sealed transmission.. would i just use a small fluid pump to **** it out?? and then top off the fluids?? if u could help me withthis i would greatly appreciate it thank u

Periodic change of the fluid and filter is recommended by most manufacturers, usually around the 80-100K mark. However, most manufacturers DO NOT recommend transmission flushes since they may use chemicals that can damage o-rings and seals. If a transmission dies soon after a fluid and filter change, it would not have lasted very much longer than that without one.

Get a service manual from Autozone or a similar store. They usually run about $25. If you pull it out to check it, you might as well change it out. Most tranny filters are internal to a metal outer piece and there's no way to "check" them. Be sure to use fresh transmission fluid and make sure it's the right TYPE. The store can help you out with this as well.

You must drop the pan that is under the transmission to drain the fluid, don't forget to replace the fluid filter.

transmission filter in the bottom of transmission bolted to valve body.you need a large drain pan.place drain plug under transmission oil pan.remove transmission oil pan drain plug.let all transmission fluid drain out then screw back drain plug in oil pan.then you need to remove transmission oil pan then remove filter and replace pan gasket also.make sure you have right amount transmission fluid on hand.buy extra because if you short of fluid you cant drive car if fluid level too low.make sure you get the right amount fluid.torque pan bolts to 96 inch pounds.

It's not too hard at all. You'll need a decent size drain pan. You'll want to remove all but a couple of the transmission pan bolts on the bottom of the transmission. Let the fluid drain out as you loosen the last couple bolts. Once most of the fluid has drained out, remove the last couple bolts and let the pan done and pour out the remaining fluid, discard the old pan gasket. I would also replace the transmission filter, the new filter should have a new pan gasket with it. Remove the old filter, install the new filter, use some gasket cement to glue down the new gasket to the pan and reinstall and fill with new fluid. I would also check your transfer case fluid level, the transfer case is behind the transmission.

It's listed in your owner's manual. Schedule A is normal driving conditions.

Transmission Fluid and Oil Filter Changing
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lift Points.
2. Place drain pan under pan
3. Remove oil pan bolts from front and sides only.
4. Loosen the rear oil pan bolts approximately four turns.
5. Lightly tap the oil pan with a rubber mallet or pry to drain the fluid from main case.
6. Remove the oil pan bolts from rear oil pan and gasket.
7. Remove front oil pan bolts leaving one corner bolt in loosely.
8. Lightly tap oil pan with rubber mallet or pry to drain fluid.
9. Remove the following remaining components:
^ The front oil pan bolts
^ The oil pan
^ The gasket
10. Remove the oil filter bolts and filter.
11. Clean the following components:
^ The transmission case
^ The front adapter case
^ The oil pan gasket surfaces with solvent
^ Air dry
^ All traces of gasket material must be removed
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the gasket.
2. Install the oil filter.
3. Install the bolts.
^ Tighten the transmission oil filter bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the front oil pan.
5. Install the front oil pan gasket
6. Install the front oil pan bolts
^ Tighten the front oil pan bolts to 11 Nm (96 inch lbs.).
7. Install the following components:
^ Install the pan
^ Install the gasket
^ Install the bolts
^ Tighten the oil pan bolts to 11 Nm (96 inch lbs.).
8. Refill the transmission with DEXRON III through oil pan fill plug on the side of the (main case) oil pan. Fill the transmission to lower edge of oil
pan fill. Fill plug opening using and oil suction gun.
^ Tighten the oil pan fill plug to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure.

I'm assuming you have an automatic, depending on the mileage and if you have had it serviced before, will determine rather you should even service it or not. I have worked at a car maintanence shop in the past. If the vehicle had over 100,000 miles and had not had a transmission service, we would recommend that they not do it. And if they insisted, they would have to sign a waiver. You can either take the transmission pan off and replace the filter, which will drain out approximately 70% of the old fluid (the remaining 30% is in the torque converter), then replace the fluid. Or there are machines at shops that reverse the flow of the tranny fluid and "flush" the filter. This will also replace the fluid residing in the transfer case.

You must either drop the pan or have a transmission flush performed. The filter is only a screen so most people use a transmission flush for this issue.
