All electric trunk opener (no key slot) just clicks (chatters) when either the button on the driver's door or under the outside lid handle is pushed, but lid does not pop open. It was getting balky, I sprayed WD40 and it seemed to be fixed, but weeks later won't open anymore, even if I push down on the lid while pushing the lid opener button. Have removed the inside spare tire cover and bent the inside latch area plastic cover over the opener enough to see the electric latch area. How do I get the cover off without hurting it, and then what? Get new electric part at dealer? If it clicks (chatters), which part do I need? Presumably called a solenoid, I assume that is just tired. The fixed latch looked good and was not loose when I sprayed it.

SOURCE: Trunk lid won't open, 2004

Hello
You will need to release the latch manually by whatever means that takes, and then test it to find out why it has stopped working, that will mean some basic electrical testing for an electrical signal being send from the release switches to the latch, so you should have battery plus and battery negative when the switch to release the latch is activated. I suspect the latch is just defective. As far as the use of WD40 goes you have done more harm than good in this type of a electro-mechanical device. There is no cable release kit, you will need to replace the needed parts from the dealer parts dept., the part is not available from any other source except a GM dealer (any GM dealer can order it) parts dept.

The trunk on my 2013 AZERA will open with the inside switch and the keyfob but not with the outside trunk handle switch with the doors unlocked or with the keyfob in the area of the trunk

Let's troubleshoot this issue:

Valet Mode:
First, check if the trunk is in valet mode. Some vehicles have a setting that prevents the trunk from opening using the key fob or the dash button when in valet mode.
Look under the trunk at the top of the license plate area. You'll find a key slot there. Use the physical key section of your key fob to open the trunk manually.

Child Locks:
Ensure that the child lock feature is not accidentally engaged. If it is, the trunk won't open from the outside handle switch.
Switch the child lock to the unlock position and try pulling the trunk handle again before closing the door.

Trunk Release Relay:
If the above steps don't resolve the issue, there might be an issue with the trunk release relay.
Check if there's ground at the switch in the glove compartment when you activate the release switch on the door, the trunk release on the key fob, or the rear handle.
Use a paperclip to jumper between the #30 and the #87 pin sockets of the relay. The pin numbers are usually labeled on the relay body.

Mechanical Issues:
Inspect the trunk latch mechanism for any signs of damage or obstruction.
Verify that the outside trunk handle is properly connected to the latch.

Remember to follow safety precautions while troubleshooting, and if you're unsure, it's best to seek professional assistance.

Bmw x5 2009 xdrive 3.oi is dead and will not open need to find a way to pop the hood from outside or open the trunk from outside.

The secret is hidden at the back cover of the number plate light - Remove the cover of the number plate lights, put 12V on wires and it should open. We have to disassemble the cover of the number plate, take out the lamp, connect to an external battery, click the Open button on the key fob and we get the miracle right in front of our eyes! It's confirmed.

Trunk won't open

Lower the back seat and crawl into the trunk and see what the latch is doing when you activate the key fob. the trunk lid will have to be open to enable any repairs. Also an emergency release cable is probably visible (yellow handle) inside the trunk and will Open the trunk lid.

Trunk won't open

First, if it does need an actuator, you can save some money on labor getting it done at an idependent aftermarket shop rather than the dealer. Yes, the part will most likely have to come from the dealer, but let the shop deal with that. You do not have to pay dealership labor rates. It would pay to shop around.

Second, before any parts are purchaced, the actual CAUSE of the problem needs to be verified. Unfortunately, the ONLY way to do that is to get the trunk lid open and inspect the trunk lid latch components. If none of the three methods provided by the manufacturer for opening the trunk in a normal fashion will work, the trunk will have to be accessed by removing the back seat. Once the back seat is removed, a technician can reach into the trunk and remove the bolts that secure the trunk latch to get the trunk open. The latch parts can then be accessed to disassemble, inspect, and repair accordingly.

Please note that this is the ONLY way to do this without causing further damage to the vehicle. DO NOT allow anyone to attempt getting into the trunk any other way! (Do not use pry bars or screwdrivers on the trunk lid, key tumblers, etc..)

My pontiac G6 trunk lid is jambed, the dash indicator say 'Trunk Adjar" but we can niether shut it or get it open. both the key fob and the inside relese button seem to be be working in that you can hear...

there is a little finger in the latch that closes when the trunk is closed chances are that the little finger has closed but the trunk is still open... this can be fixed by looking at the latch on the lid you will see a slot with a metal arm in the middle take a screw driver and place it in the hole in the slot at the top. press the button on the fob to open the trunk while your pulling down on the screw driver the little latch should twist letting the screw driver move through the track and pop out now alowing you to close the trunk and being happy again.

Trunk lid on 2004 new beatle vw will not open

They legally HAVE to show you for FREE. That is a safety issue. If you cannot change your tire along the road, it is a safety concern.

My wife's beetle is with her at work now, but if I remember correctly, you lower the back seat and look in the trunk. There should be a handle or cord you pull to release the trunk. Sometimes they are flourescent or glowing.
