Sounds like the timing belt is out a tooth or more. Check to make sure you have it set right.

Check the crankshaft position sensor on the bottom of the crank. There is a disc with wings behind the timing belt pulley on the crank and when one of the wings breaks the magnetic field of the sensor it gives a signal to the computer. Mine broke when one of the belt teeth broke off and broke the magnet off the backside of the sensor. The little disc slides between the the two sides of the sensor and if you bumped the disc more than likely you broke the sensor (its fragile). Good luck

SOURCE: need to know about changing the timing belt on my 2001 mitsubishi

This will take about 3-4 hours. If you look at the drive belts, they will all have to be taken off to get to the timing belt. The engine crankshaft has to be positioned for marks to line-up. The crankshaft will have to be prevented from turning so you can take off its drive pulley. Rotate until the alignment cylinder is near TDC, remove sparkplug, then packing a small rope on top of the piston prevents the engine from turning.. Once you change one timing belt, you will never buy another car with a timing belt again. You can get a manual on eBay.

When to change timing belt in 2006 galant

Timing Belt Replace ment Intervals for 2006 Mitsubishi Galant are as follows:

2.4L 4Cylinder engine: Every 60,000 miles

3.8L V-6 Engine: Every 60,000 miles

Both of these engines are "Interference Engines" which means that if the timing belt breaks, severe engine damage is likely to result.

I personally recommend replacement of the timing belt idler and tensioner pullies as well as the water pump because failure of these components will cause a failure of the timing belt.

Someone told me to change out the timing belt and water pump and everything included (kit) but at what mileage or is this just a scam. it is a mitsubishi galant 2001 4cyl.

WELL TO BEGIN WITH, THE TIMING BELT & WATER PUMP NEED TO BE INSPECTED AT ABOUT 100,000 MILES. IF THEY ARE FOUND TO BE BAD ENOUGH THEN CHANGE THEM. THE WATER PUMP HAS WHAT ARE CALLED WEEP HOLES. THESE WEEP HOLES LET YOU KNOW THAT THE WATER PUMP IS BAD INTERNALLY, BEFORE IT LOCKS UP. THE BEST WAY TO CHECK THE TIMING BELT IS TO REMOVE THE COVER.

2003 galant wont start

Your timing belt might have busted. Mine did that in November of 2007.... I had to replace 2 of the 4 cylinders, along with the timing belt and housing. Total cost was a little over $1700.00
