Tip & How-To about Mazda MX-6

My transmission

My car starts fine but if won't go into gear. I have checked the lever rod on the transmission to see if it broke. It was not broke. My hold light on my dash flashes on and off what does that mean it seems like somthing it froze up or locked up in place or is my transmission broke.

Ford Galaxy 2011 gear stick stuck in park won't move

Lots of modern vehicles fitted with auto transmission have a safety lock preventing the gear lever being moved unless the ignition is on and the brake pedal applied.

This probably applies to your car and if the system is faulty it will leave the gear lever stuck. Usually it is possible to hear the lock release.

If the transmission end selector lever is accessible, disconnecting the cable or rod from the lever and moving it by hand will provide a clue whether the problem is inside the box or the cable or gear lever.

1995 Ford Escort Wagon Automatic, Won't shift

Hi there,

Most modern automatic cars require the driver to depress the brake pedal first, to allow releasing the gear out of Park.

Some automatic transmissions also provide an 'overide' switch near the gear lever, to allow manual release of the gear lever.

If neither of the above resolve this, then you will need to check the operation of your brake switch, mounted on the brake pedal.

my gmc 2006 won't move in gear

happened to me. Have someone move the shifter back and forth while you are under the truck in the transmission area. In my case the rod clip broke from the shifter to the transmission. Lined it up and put a tie wrap on it to hold them together. This should do until you get the 20.00 part. MMake Sure To Block The WHEELS!!

My 2001 Dodge Caravan's transmission is stuck in reverse.

Things haven't changed much...look on top of the transmission in the engine compartment and look at the shifting linkage. Look for anything that could be interfering with the shifting. One linkage is the cable to the Shift Lever and Rod that goes down into the transmission. Remove the cable adjustment screw.
Move the shift lever rod towards the front of the Van into the Park Indent Position. Place the Driver's Position (Dash) Shift Lever into Park and then reconnect the Cable to the Shift Lever and tighten down the cable adjustment screw to 70 in-lbs.
Check operation's
