Driver's side sun visor won't stay in place. Can this be repaired and not replaced totally?
You need to replace it. Don't do it with another 2002 sun visor. I did and guess what, it did it again. I also had it replaced once by the dealer when under warrenty. Its a bad design.
In the end I replaced it with a sun visor from a 2004 (I think) model. I got lucky and found someone selling new sets on e-bay. It is a new design so you should replace both so they look right but they fit. As an extra bonus it also had a memo recorder along with the home link and the new visor slides out to give you better coverage than the '02 model. Best of all, the defect that causes the visor to slowly tilt down has been corrected. After 2 years, it's still working.

My 2002 Toyota Highlander 2WD V6-3.0L emitted High heat when the AC setting was on high and also on recirculate. The local Toyota dealer informed me that it was the AC control knob, BUT that the entire dash control unit has to be replaced at a cost of over $760 (not including labor). The AC works fine otherwise and there are no AC leaks. Apparently Toyota designed the Dash Contol Unit so that you cannot only replace a single control knob. Neither Toyota or other car repair companies recommend a used dash control unit. This is "highway robbery" that the consumer is forced to replace the entire Dash Control Unit when only a single knob is the culprit. Any solutions anyone know of to help me fix this problem at a much lower cost?
You can save a LOT of money by fixing it yourself.
All that is wrong with the knob are broken wires from the knob's PC board to the main PC board on the AC control.
All you have to do is remove the AC main control, take it apart, and resolder the broken wires from the PC board with the knob on it, to the main AC pc board. There are 3 wires, any number could be broken.
If you take it apart and solder the broken wires, this WILL fix your issue. Just make sure you put the wires back exactly where they go.
A FIXYA rating (4 blue diamonds) would be most appreciated for my assistance.

i have a 2002 Toyota highlander passenger brake light not working. the tail light and turn signal are working fine but not the brake light. If it were the fuse wouldn't the drivers side brake light be out too? AND wouldn't the tail light be out as well?
RE: 2002 Toyota Highlander 2.4cyl. 4X4 Base Model
I am a Certified Technician and have basic knowledge with electronics in electrical wiring. I searched the web and discovered this is a common problem.
I fixed the problem and it was a simple procedure... The problem is with the reverse light socket at the side with no brake light. This socket functions as a hub to direct current to the brake bulbs.
Remove reverse light socket and re-seat bulb. Check for loose or broken prongs. Replace if necessary.
Swap the reverse socket with the other side.

2002 toyota hiace van front wiper reservoir refill location. Owners manual is no more and need help.
I have the 1990 model and just so happened to stumble on its unusual location today as I was replacing the door hinges. On the passenger side open the door and look above the step, there should be a little plastic cap with the wiper icon on it. hope this helps!

i want to do a tune up on my toyota highlander myself what do i need?
With electronic ignition sytems today there are no moving parts in the top of the ignition module. Spark plugs and an Air filter is about all you can do for a tune up at home. There is no need to do any timing adjustments.
However..... if you have not changed the timing belt on an 8 year old vehicle it is time to have that done. A worn or loose timing belt can cause your vehicle to idle slower or not maintain an even speed when using a cruise control system or (cruise off) driving a contsant speed and the car seems to cycle up and down in speed a little bit.
Thanks for using FixYa.

I need to remove the front bumper cover on a 2002 Toyota Highlander to be able to install new headlight assemblies. I found information that indicates you need to remove both the grill and bumper cover to be able to take out and reinstall the new headlights.
Open hood and look on top of headlamps. You see a piece that looks like it slides in behind the light.
Have removed two mounting srews. Disconnected plastic grill. The bottom of the head light is held in by snap clips. The bumper cover needs pulled out far enough in order for the assembly to clear and come out.
