The above information about the sensor being located at the top of the motor to the passenger side of center is bogus. That is only the pig tail plug in. The actual sensor pig tail continues down below, underneath the plastic lower timing belt cover, on the front of the motor, just above the crankshaft timing gear.

It is a very involved process of removing and replacing. You will have to remove all of the belts, the front timing belt covers, (upper and lower). You will also have to remove the front bracket that is mounted to the front of the block, which serves as the mount for the power steering pump, the alternator and the A/C compressor. You will also have to remove the crankshaft pulley. You cannot remove the plastic lower timing belt cover unless you remove all of these things first. The sensor is located underneath the lower cover. It has two bolts that hold it in place. You will have to remove these two bolts.

The crankshaft pulling bolt is a right handed thread and loosens by turning counter clockwise. The pulley will slip off but is a very tight fit. Do not try to turn it while removing it as there is a small pin that keeps it aligned to one position. Use a small ball pine hammer to tap it loose.

It is also a good idea to remove the electric cooling fan shroud that is mounted to the inside side of the radiator and the radiator hoses to give yourself more room to work. It has only two bolts at the top holding it in place. And then slips into two retaining clips at the bottom. Lifting it will pull it out of these retaining clips.

When you remove the small bypass hose located at the top of the radiator , to the passenger side, be careful not to break off the small nipple protruding out of the radiator tank. It is plastic and will break easily if you try to pull the rubber bypass hose from it. This will have to be taken to a radiator shop to have repaired if you accidentally break this off. Be sure to carefully loosen the hose from this nipple before trying to pull it off.

And one more thing, if you go to that much trouble to replace this sensor, it is a good idea to go ahead and replace the timing belt as well. It is a maintenance item and you will have to go through the same process to replace it as well. Do it once and do it all.

I hope this helps.

04 Kia Sorento stuck in 4WD Low

I used 4WD Low in a snow storm and now it won't switch off to any other setting. The light stays on for FWD Low but the little drive indicator is not showing. Any ideas?

The 1st time my 04 Sorento got stuck in 4WD low it was towed to dealership & they claimed it was the switch. Six months later, while on a camping trip, got stuck again. The local tow truck driver saved me hundreds of dollars in towing costs. Put it in reverse for at least 10-20 feet. That's it! He said that he found this to be a common problem. I later asked my dealership why they failed to mention this solution to me. They replied that they thought I knew! Spread to word!

2) Use a small screwdriver to pry it away from the door. Be careful of the paint:

3) The panel will expose the 3 main bolts that need to be removed:
3_18_2013_2_43_24_pm.jpg

4) The cable harness needs to be removed this is located behind the door panel. Remove the one screw behind the screw cover:

Once the one screw is removed it will allow you to move the door panel enough to get to the harness and the 2 bottom bolts.

Here is how the harness looks:

Once the harness is removed and the 3 bolts removed the mirror will come out.

Repeat the steps to re install your new mirror.

dome light dosen't work the dioed needs replacing

where is the diod located for the dome light on the kia sorento

Answer

The diode for the interior dome light is located behind the driver's side kick panel. You have to remove the kick panel or get access to the wires behind the panel. The diode is located in the wrapped wires just to the left of the fuse box area. When you feel around the wrapped wires with your fingers, you will feel a small hard rectangular plastic piece behind the tape wrapping the wires. Carefully cut the tape at the spot and locate the diode. Remove the diode and replace with a new one (about $13-18 at Kia dealer) and test. Retape with electrical tape and replace kick panel and you are done. About a 15 minute job.

Sounds like a shorted wire.. This is from a Kia forum on the subject:

The ECM computes ignition timing in response to the signals from several sensors. The timing is fixed during the start-up phase. However, when the engine has been started and the vehicle is driven away, the ECM computes the optimum timing based on the engine speed, load and temperature. The ignition timing is fixed BTDC 5 and DTC P1330 is set when connecting Ignition control terminal of Data Link Connector and ground. If disconnect Ignition control terminal of Data Link Connector and ground, the DTC is erased automatically.Make sure to check for short circuit to ground between Ignition control terminal of Data Link Connector and chassis ground when DTC is set.

This condition mainly occurs in high ambient or desert areas, and can be related to the occasional increase in contact resistance due to excessive wear of the inner elements of the TP sensor. This bulletin describes the proper service and adjustment procedure for replacing the TP Sensor. - Service Procedure Replacement Procedure: 1. Turn ignition OFF. Remove engine cover and disconnect electrical connector from TP Sensor. 2. Remove two (2) retaining screws from TP Sensor and remove from throttle body. 3. Install new TP Sensor to throttle body. water leaking on passenger side

water leaking on passenger side of kia

Answer

  • Most Helpful of 1 Answers

If the water is clear and has no antifreeze smell, then its a blocked condensation drain from the AC. Most likely. You should be able to clean it out quite easy. It will be in front of the passenger side feet area. You may be able to see it from under the hood, or you may have to go from under the car.
Look for a crinkly tube sticking down or it may be a 2- 3 inch downturned L shape tube on the firewall. A pipe cleaner from any tobacco shop will do the job. Just poke it through to clean out. Watch out for water in the eye.

If the water is greenish or orangeish, and feels sticky then you have a heater core leak and will need to replace the heater core.
