I have a 1994 volvo

there is a sending unit in the gas tank, just a float attached to an arm moving a variable resistor. you need to pull the tank and replace it. given the age of the car and the labor required, you should also replace the fuel pump while you are in there if that year had the pump inside the tank. i would also call around to fabrication/machine shops and see if any of them can flush the tank. you would be surprised at what accumulates in there over the years.

I have a 1993 volvo

its the same as an american car no difference it has pistons that go up and down ,and like all swedes it speaks english so swear at it in english and it will work better ,from the sound of it i would hazard a guess and say mass air flow meter ,but it could be anything so it may pay to ask a local mechanic to have a look ,this vehicle in europe now is vary rarely on the road as the europeon wide vehicle mecanical inspection which is every year would have put it the scrapyard by now ,you do not see many cars over 10/12 yrs old here because of the inspection ,its so tough . Plus the police love pulling old cars and checking them over for defects as well .

Driving down the highway and

To check timing belt or chain, remove distributer cap and turn engine over. BRING TO TOP DEAD CENTER AND SEE WHERE THE ROTOR IS POINTING, #1 cylinder? IF NOT SPEND ENGINE ONE TURN, pointing at #1? If not then you may have jumped time. Take a scoket that fits the crank and turn the engine by hand. The rotor should start turning right away, the mor you move the engine without movement of the rotor shows slack in chain or belt.
Another possiblity is that you might have a crank sensor gone bad. Check for fire at the spark plugs. Take one out and, while the plug is laid on the engine, spin the engine, it should it should spark. Either way shows that the engine is not firing. Next is to do a compression check, ther should not be more than 10% difference between the cylinder. If no compression, you have an interfearance engine and jumping timing will bend the valve. Hope this helps.

Replacing a starter on a 1993 volvo 940 turbo. Is

It looks easy for the 940 but I am not sure about the 940 turbo, as maybe some of the turbo parts are in the way. I'm not sure about that, since there is no documentation on the turbo model vs. the 940 standard model. If you can follow the following instructions, then I would give it a whirl.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - 1993 Volvo 940
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery.
  2. Disconnect the leads from the starter motor.
  3. Remove the starter motor retaining bolts.
  4. Remove the starter motor from the vehicle. To install:
  5. Position the starter motor to the flywheel housing.
  6. Apply locking compound to the bolt threads and install the retaining bolts finger-tight.
  7. Tighten the bolts to approximately 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  8. Connect the starter motor leads and the negative battery cable. Fig. 1: Unfasten the nut retaining the starter cables . . . 90952p12.jpg

940 volvo comes out of overdrive without touching button

IPDusa.com.  If its similar to a 240 (and it most likely is) you can purchase a block off plate for the solenoid so you won't lose 4th gear (actually its OD from torque converter lockup).

AC HIGH SIDE SERVICE PORT

Unless your whole a/c system has been replaced,it will not work properly with R-134a and mainly shops only have access to the R-12 for pre-1995 vehicles. The high side is on the aluminum tubing that runs around the engine basically, and is the plastic cap nearest the belt system, just remove the cap and you're there. If you were to accidentally try to fill the wrong side,it would not hurt the system,it just will not accept the freon.I hope that helps.Good luck! Im looking for a fuse box,,, how many and where

Depending which fuses you need to locate, there is a fuse box under the bonnet and depending on your model there is one in the lower panel to the right or left of the steering wheel, but there are also fuses and relays under the ashtray in the centre console. The ashtray is easy to remove but the fuses and relays are not easy to get at.
