Where is the crankshaft position sensor located on a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser and how do I remove it? I've heard to try and locate it from the bottom of the car as well as from the top. I don't know. I've already replaced the camshaft sensor and the battery. The car died @ a red light and wouldn't start afterwards. It tries to turn over but won't start completely. There is no spark to fire it up..plugs/wires are good, ignition coil is working. Last option from what I've been told is the crankshaft position sensor but I cannot locate it. Thank you.
It is located behind the **** of the starter on the front of the engine starting in '03 the 2.4 lt was changes the repair manual failed to update this..you may sneak it out with small fingers with out pulling out the starter.

If you look at the front of the headlight, there are actually a couple of screws around the edge. These are your adjustment screws.

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY 04 PT CRUISER. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IS RUNNING ROUGH. IT SPUTTERS LIKE IT WANTS TO STALL AFTER BEING STOPPED AT A LIGHT OR STOPSIGN. THE OBDII BRINGS UP A CODE OF P0171 WHICH IS SYSTEM TOO LEAN. I HAVE CHANGED TO O2 SENSOR AND SEEMS TO RUN BETTER BUT STILL COME UP LEAN ON BANK 1. ANY SUGGESTIONS? SHOP SAYS IT WOULDNT BE THE FUEL PUMP OR FILTER BECAUSE ITS NOT ON ALL BANKS.
there is only one bank on a pt cruiser and yes it could be a fuel pump or a vacuum leak

How to change light bulb on console gear shift indicator. Wife can't tell what gear she is in after dark. Automatic trans. 2004 PT-Cruiser
I have 2002 Cruiser, not sure if it's the same configuration. Here's what I did:
Remove the Console: Slide front seats all the way back and recline them all the way to get the armrests out of the way. Pull the emergency brake ALL the way up. Set the gear shift in neutral. Remove the 4 screws in the cup holders front and rear. Remove the rear window controller (pry out gently), then squeeze the tab and pull out each of the 2 connectors. I also have a 12v socket at the front of the console - squeeze the blue tab and pull gently. The console should be free and should lift straight up with a little coaxing.
Remove the Gear Shift indicator assembly: You MIGHT be able to remove the light bulb without doing this, but I couldn't. With a T10 torx screwdriver, remove the 4 screws in each corner. Lift the assembly up as far as practical (a couple inches). The bulb socket under the PRND21 indicator has 2 very small tabs on each side that no normal-sized human being can squeeze together - I pried the bulb socket out of the white 'shroud' with a screwdriver at each tab location (2).
Pull on the black socket. The socket rotates freely and is NOT the normal "turn a quarter turn and it's out" type socket. (That'd be too easy!) The bulb is a standard interior auto bulb. Replace it and reverse the procedure to reinstall. About 30 minutes for this job.

2004 pt cruiser keeps setting DTC's P0032 & P0038 ,sensors have been replaced with NTK
Hello, First, you have to clear some of the Codes with a scanner or wait after 25-35 start-ups for the information to cycle out of the system.
Next, make sure you have replaced the correct Bank or lower or upper sensor when there can be 4 sensors on the exhaust.
The wiring running to your sensors may be bad. Also, if anyone has fooled with the wiring to the sensors, some have cooling tubes which are embedded in the wiring. Sometimes people rewire the connectors to fit different O2 sensor plug-ins and the cooling tube is cut. When these plug-ins are manipulated this way the sensors overheat.
I can't say offhand about how your PT cruiser has its wires configured into junction connectors. They may be replaceable junctions or may be moulded into the housing of the O2 control unit as 1 piece.
You will need to ask at an Autoparts store or go to a Salvage yard and try to find a harness you can use. It is not impossible that the sensors you purchased could be bad. You should be able to get some sort of continuity value from the prong connectors on the O2 sensors to see if you have a circuit in the part.
I hope my solution is helpful, perhaps a Chrysler mechanic will answer you.

I snapped off two of the bolts in the lug nuts on the passenger front tire. I need to drive and get replacements. I am just wondering if it would be safe enough to drive for short distances in town.
Do not drive faster than 20mph, and only to the garage.
