My jeep cherokee laredo 85' is having some
Relay does not sound right to me. Use a voltmeter or test light to probe the fuse box. Is there power at the headlight fuse? Problem may be in the power box itself. I don't believe there is any relay that runs all the lights.

Why won't it engage any forward or reverse gears?
auto or stick trans, we find out its an AUTOmatic.this trans is most likely a pure hydramatic.and no TCM tranny brains then.check levels next. (by the book dont guess)check the shift cable, for proper movement. in all gears."selections, they are no gears" the automatic shifts via clutch packs not gears. like stick does.move the shift lever and be sure the transmission end of the cable moves 1 for 1 same; that is moves to all transmission shift positions. (at trans itself)if not the cable is bad or came loose.inspections are first never transmission swaps, blind (on a whim);the FSM book covers all this."chapter, on car service" all cars made have this chapter.. an amazing fact.next, is get a new filter in the trans.if clogged, the pump can not suck AFT. (shunted input)so line pressure drops, and it cant shift.no need to do the stall tests as it fails 100%next is line pressure, tests. if that fails,it needs a rebuilt trans.but dont take my word , read the book.or ask your tech to do the tests, he knows, how...

My 4 wheel drive light comes on saying servec 4
Is it a an 85 or a95? I know of two switches on these vehicles, one is a four port vacuum switch on the top of the transfer case, you must unplug the vacuum line, and unscrew it from the transfer case. The other is on the front axle. The one on the transfer case is rather difficult to reach, it is hex shaped for a wrench. Unsure of size, it is large though. The one on the front axle is part of the axle shift motor, is unplugged and removed for replacement. I believe the one on the axle only serves to turn on the 4x4 indicator light.

I have a ticking noise.
It's probably a collapsed lifter. Oil sometimes helps but after time they wear out. And don't pump up to max specs especially when running.

Over heating and trouble idleing
Could be faulty Thermostat/ Leaky head gasket or bad water pump.. Check the oil pan for any antifreeze,if its OK the do a compression test on the cylinders to check the head gasket, and replace the Thermostat if its defective. and check for any antifreeze leaks on the ground. Good luck bro
