You need to adjust the ignition timing. If your not familiar with how to do this I'd suggest going to a reliable mechanic.

I don't think you can clean it. Pretty sure it needs to be replaced.

I have this problem too, I usually just flash the high beams at them to let them see the difference for a second.

sounds like you have a ground wire lose. What lights are they?

trace the wire back to the fuse box with a lighted 12V tester and if the fuse appears to be good, check the hot side of the fuse and go from their. You might have to find another hot point (key activated) to wire the stereo into with an inline fuse.

No its not the solenoid, if that was the case the starter would just "click" but not spin the engine over. Have the battery load tested for a dead cell.
