2003 Ford Taurus - Page 9 Questions & Answers
2003 Ford Taurus, 90K, used car, engines shakes, ABS goes on
Are you getting any codes from the Check Engine Light? This sounds like it could have something to do with a sensor. Check your air filter and make sure it's clean. The tach on my 1999 doesn't really work, but it hasn't coincided with other driveability problems. The engine doesn't change in it's RPM's, the tachometer just stops working. Have your charging system checked. The shaking might be coming from bad fuel pump operation, clogged fuel filter, or dirty fuel injectors. Try putting an additive into your gastank to clean the injectors (a bottle of Seafoam is great for this). Try calling your local Autozone and see if they do free trouble code scanning. This might help lead you in a better direction.
Crank shaft pully wobbles
It would be my best guess that the retaining bolt could be loose. If it is then you will want to make sure the crankshaft is not damaged, If the crank is ok, then tighten the bolt and see if it still wables. If so your pulley has wabbled long enough to eat the inside out. You will have to get another one.
I hope this takes care of your problem.
Drivers window not working
Check the electrical connections to the switch, if they're good you probably need a new switch. Also, check the fuses and be sure everything is in good shape.
I just put a rebuilt power steering pump on a 2003
Having the pump/lines off allowed air to get in them, with the cap on turn your wheels boths ways without locking them all the way in either direction, if it starts to whine add fluid to the full spot on the reservoir and continue the process once its got the air out you'll be good, but keep the cap on while you're doing it, it should happen after couple minutes.
At start loud grinding for 15 seconds
it sounds like the bendix on starter is going bad. and it will not kick all the way into fly wheel when starting.remove starter and see if it works properly. Test the starter. Mount the starter in a large vise. Using jumper cables, attach the ground cable from a battery to the starter body and a positive cable to the starter positive post, where the main battery cable attaches. Attach a jumper wire from the solenoid-activator connection. Carefully jumper this wire directly to the starter positive post. The starter should spin firmly, and the starter drive-gear forcefully extend. good-day!
Why does my 2003 ford taurus idle up when i apply the brakes
There are a few obscure potential causes, but these are less likely than the most common reason: The power assist brakes are operated by a vacuum diaphragm which is provided vacuum from the engine. When the diagram inside the brake booster has a leak, when you apply the brakes it causes a vacuum leak for the engine which will raise the idle.
With the car in park, engine running, make sure that it comes and goes every time that the pedal is depressed and released. Another way to check it is to turn off the engine, wait about five seconds, then depress the brake pedal, counting how many times it can be pressed before the assist goes away (you will see a difference).
If you can press it four times or more, the leak may be elsewhere, however if it only presses once or twice (before it gets hard, and only goes halfway down), it has a leak and will need to be replaced.
Good Luck!
Weak cranking
Check that the Battery cables (both positive and negative) are tight at both the battery and the starter/engine block. Check for voltage drop across cable ends while cranking. If cables check OK, your starter is most likely on its last leg.
