There may be 2 holes that don't exactly match, pull the insulation on the inside bulkhead or firewall down to locate the hole then push a small Phillips screwdriver through the hole and push it back and forth to make the hole a bit bigger then look under the hood to locate the hole and install the cable. Sounds like the door latch. They are an issue with those cars.
