Firing order is 1-3-4-2
Remove no 1 cylinder sparkplug(furthest from the transmission). Block the plug hole with your hand. Rotate the engine with a wrench until you feel pressure under your hand. No 1 cylinder is now on compression stroke.
Now get the engine on TDC(Line up notch on the crank pulley with the timing pointer). Remove the distributor cap. The rotor arm will be pointing at no 1 cylinder plug wire. Moving clockwise connect the wires.
Boot release
Boot solenoid needs checking, the unit is usually found in the boot lid . It may have become unplugged or the wiring could have broken or worn through. Check the wiring where it should be taped securely to the boot hinges. If you put a meter across on resistance and get a zero reading then the solenoid has failed and needs replacing.

1994 Ford Escort, will not go into gear(automatic), turn signals wont work, warning lights don't light up when cranking.
Start with checking the brake light switch.
follow the brake pedal up the metal arm until you see a little switch pressed against the metal arm.
When the brakes are pressed, the switch button extends and unlocks the shift lever and turns on the brake lights.
It is common for a little plastic piece to deteriorate and break away, causing the brake lights to stay on and can damage the shift lock solenoid.
Attached is a photo of the brake switch where it contacts the pedal arm.
There is a little snap cover beside the shifter. You can pry it open with a little flathead screwdriver and insert a thin object inside to release the shift lock and get out of gear until you find the fix.
