Where is the starter
follow the positive cable from the battery...it will lead you right to it. Make sure you take notes on where the wires are so you can put them back in the right places and, before removing the starter, remove that cable from the battery and know if you have a security system and how to re-arm it if you do.

It does sound like an O2 sensor, but could possibly be something as simple as a loose or glazed fan belt. You mentioned you just purchased... for peace of mind, I'd do a healthy tune up plugs, wires, ALL filters including fuel filter and give it a good fuel system treatment (STP or Gumout) this will give you a good "ground zero" starting point if problem continues.
Where is the fuel pump
when you lower the tank, you will see the hole into which the pump and sender are inserted. generally there are straps which must be released and hoses and wires which must be disconnected. some vehicles provided access through a hole in the bottom of the trunk, on a car that old you may want to check under the trunk carpet before you begin the job of removing the tank. and on a car that old i would definitely check to rule out a mechanical pump. you will want to drain as much gas as possible before starting, and do not let any smokers assist you.
Car cranks but does not start, getting no spark
Check the voltage to the coil - positive side of the coil. If there is no voltage then the fuse in the fuse box marked IGN is blown. Replace and proceed,, If the fuse blows yet again the coil is short and must be replaced.
If however there is voltage then the breaking voltage on the negative side of the coil must be checked. Check the platinum points/capacitor or the electronic ignition unit that is not triggering the coil.
How to replace a ignition swicth on a 1985 pontiac
Disconnect Negative Battery cable. Disconnect electrical connector from
switch. Remove 2 small bolts mounting switch to steering column. Remove
actuator rod from switch if on outside, or it may be a knob underneath.
New switch will usually be pre-set to "Off" position. Attach actuator
rod to switch or mount switch over knob and mount to column with 2 small
bolts, being careful not to change switch position while doing so.
Re-connect wiring to switch, then Negative Battery cable. Check for
proper operation with foot firmly on brake. Make sure that Accessory as
well as Start and Run functions operate according to corresponding key
position. Switch may need to be adjusted if out of sync.
