WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY BATTERY IF WE CHARGE IT BUT CAN ONLY HOLD A CHARGE FOR A LITTLE WHILE WE HAD THE ALTERNATOR CHECKED IT STILL WORKS
The battery is probably faulty. A battery can look good when measuring resting voltage, 12.7 V, it should be if the battery is ok. As you describe the problem, fix it enough to buy a new battery.
