Morris Cars & Trucks - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support
Hi. I have a 1959 Morris Minor. It's just back from the shop, and it ran great. However, as soon as I filled up full of gas, it keeps stalling out. And it's not the gas.
Question edited to add full year.
Question moved from Misc to 1960 model Morris Minor.
Ah, a lovely old school car from the days of my youth. The days when cars were simple to work on. I had a mechanic friend that has on with a Triumph Spitfire engine in it and was in the car of another friend that rolled one with me and two other in it when the front suspension tie rod broke in a bend on a country lane.
If you only JUST got it back from the shop, I would take it back.
Things to check
Fuel pump operation.
Ignition timing.
Spark Plugs and wires.
Distributer and Distributer Cap.
Strip and Clean the carburetor.
Backfiring is usually from lean mixture, not enough gas if it backfires through the exhaust. Unburnt fuel vapor sits there until ignited.

Was any 1938 morris 8s manufactured with auto gear box
With a little initiative, you could probably research this yourself on Wikipedia. A brief review makes no mention of automatic gear boxes in the article on Morris motors. The first automatic transmission, as we currently understand it, with torque converter and planetary gearsets, was the hydramatic transmission introduced by General Motors in 1939.
CAN YOU DETERMINE WHAT MORRIS TAPER THIS DIMENSION REPRESENTS? OVER A 1 INCH LENGTH THE DIAMETER RANGES FROM .390 TO .434
the dimension to determine the size of the morse taper is taken at a distance back from the large end of the taper
from your large dimension (.434 " ) equates to 11.023 mm and the closest taper to that is morse taper number 1 which has a dimension of 12.065 mm at the measured distance from the taper end
the smallest morse taper size is number 0 which is 9.045 mm and the next size up is morse taper number 2 which is 17.780 mm
