Range finder does not register distance 99.9% of the time

I had the same problem, rangefinder would work only sometimes and only at short distances. Called customer support and was ready to send it in. Tech guy told me to turn off "First Target" ( or "last target") and turn on"LOS" (line of sight). Range finder now works perfectly at all distances. Apparently the first target feature doesnt work properly.

Battery & readout failing, or

First of all, make sure the batteries are good. Secondly, make sure the battery and camera terminals are clean (use a qtip and alcohol).
Other than that, there could be a bad switch or other problem occuring, which would require servicing.
You might contact Leupold to see what they can do in the way of service.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

The adjustment 3 thru 9 is too tight and hard to

This is not uncommon with Leupold scopes. The first thing to try is to get a good grip on the adjustment ring and just crank away, making sure you're not trying to go past the adjustment range marks on the adj. ring. If the ring has not been moved recently(like within the past few months) it can take a surprisingly large amount of arm-strong to break the ring loose. The reason the ring can be so difficult to move is because Leupold uses a close(tight) fit to keep moisture out and the dry inert gas(argon or nitrogen) in. I haven't felt a Leupold yet that didn't require substantial effort to move either the power or occular ring. Be sure to wipe down the exterior of the ring to remove any oil or dirt to insure you obtain maximum adhesion between your hands(you did wash them, didn't you?) and the ring. 70% isopropyl/rubbing alcohol and a paper towel(don't soak it) makes quick work of cleaning the adjustment ring. In any event, DO NOT APPLY ANY OIL/LUBRICANT IN AN ATTEMPT TO TRY TO MAKE THE RING MOVE EASIER! All that will do is probably cause the o-ring seals to begin deteriorating, and then you WILL have to send the scope in for repair. Once you have the ring moving, just work it back and forth until it it moves about as easily as it's going to get. If this doesn't work, get on the horn(telephone, email, etc) to Leupold and they'll likely instruct you try what I told you before sending the scope to them. They normally don't consider this stiffness to be a problem as they consider this to be a sign that the seals are working the way they should. Last time I talked to them nonwarranty problems cost $10, warranty stuff was free of charge. Leupold is a class act; they back their product to the hilt. Good luck!

I have about a 1989 model Leupold 3x9 Var X and

You have a number or a fraction on the inside of the windage cap, or you should, it will say something like 1/4 or 1/2? That will tell you how many fractions your scope moves with each click, at 100 yards. Anyway, there is also a left and right direction on the scope, you want your scope to go in the direction of your bullet miss, this will pull the barrel over to the center, again, it is supposed to. If you have run out of clicks, you will need to shim your scope. So, on the 1/4 inch at 100 yards, you will want to move the dial, 8 to 12 clicks to the right. Shoot it again, if it went the wrong way, you know what to do. If it didn't move at all, try this.... If it is a bolt action rifle, pull the bolt out, mount the rifle in a cardboard box with v grooves cut in it so it will cradle and not move, or a vise, sight down the barrel at a target at 100 yards, then peek down the scope, it should be right on the target, if not move the cross hairs till it aligns, check the barrel again, make sure it didn't move, then peek through the scope again, if it is the same, it will be on paper at 100 yards, if it is not a bolt action, the only other rifle you can d it with is an AR type rifle. This is a military trick, not something I dreamed up, it works. Check it out.

In the process of zeroing the scope in I noticed

There are a few things that it could be. Make sure you have the scope mounted with the elevation screw on top and the windage screw on the right side. Next, carefully check the distance of the scope from the receiver. If the mounts aren't exactly the same, the scope could be tilted upward. Try switching the front and rear mounts. Make sure you don't have either of the mounts on backwards. Make sure the scope is built for the caliber you are shooting.

If none of these fix your problem, Leupold scopes are guaranteed for life.

Cant adjust windage to the

There are several potential problems that could be causing this. The most likely are:

misaligned rings
misaligned ring bases
misaligned ring base screw holes
Bent scope

other potential issues
bad scope
bent barrel
poor action bedding (putting enough pressure on the barrel that it throws the bullet to the right, unlikely)

The first 4 are most likely and can be checked by using a different scope. If you have the same issue with the new scope, then look to the rings and mounts as your probable issue.

What's one click wont mean at 50 yards

One click at 100 yards = 1/4 inch movement of the bullet
One click at 50 yards = 1/8 inch movement of the bullet
