when you "unpartition" a hard drive you effectively format it again so it will be blank so you will have to reinstall the operating system again partitioning only splits the hard drive capacity to give you another "disc" on which to store files it has nothing to do with wanting to use it on a different computer for example when loading a operating system say win 7 you could select disc and load it up then you could use the other section disc d to load ubantu operating system or you could load both on disc c and save the disc d for back up of files and folders

This kind of fault is usually the case to drive interface. You can remove the drive and try to plug it into you computer using the IDE or SATA cables your drive needs. You will then be able to tell if it is your drive or the case.

Can you open the case and remove the HDD? I looked at the specs on the device and I didn't see what interface the drive is, I would assume it's a SATA, I don't know for sure. Can you ID it? One thing you could try is take the drive out of the housing and place it inside your computer.
