If the screen went black but the laptop still turns on most likely the problem is related to the graphics chip but to be sure I would disconnect all the power including the battery, leave the laptop for a few minutes and try again if the screen is still black you will need to repair the graphics chip and if the screen is black but you can still see some text on the LCD than the inverter needs to be replace.

New RAM, still painfully slow.

That's extremely slow - although you don't say if it has always performed at this speed or it has recently slow down, I'd first download Malwarebytes and run a full scan - there might be a virus. Run Task Manager, click Performance tab and check CPU, memory and disk usage to see which is the culprit. Two utilities I would also recommend using: Chkdsk and Defragmenter.

I have a Gateway MX8738 that won't power up.

that is simple 1: bad power pack, or main battery is shorted, kick that big battery to the curb and use PC on AC pack forever if you want. 2: shorted things plugged it to the mobo. 3: wrong power pack try one rated near 100watts. 1,2,3 easy as 1,2,3, gateway has no service manuals like HP. or dell has that is why we trash this junk brand. sure cheap but is junk.

My Gateway MX6956 Laptop kinda

no OS stated and is infected, sure. no answers possible ever. buy w7 from Microsoft and load it. "Now when i try to redownload windows" what does that mean, and what windows version. install media it is called now. and comes in only these forms not once stated by you. let me guess, (is fact) it is 13 years old today 2005 made and did have XP on it , the virus magnet from H3LL it is. so is it still stinky rotten XP and you are the last person on earth using XP>? seems so, right? XP also hates SATA chip. HDD SATA ports are dead with the installer, and is tricky F6, mode, floppy drive , to install the working driver, so that is true or the IDE HDD is dead. your hdd is SATA disk I looked it up. and most XP boot media can not see it. only Gate way media works here. buy W7 and install that. is the best cure. in dog years this PC is 91 years old, we retire them that old. all of them. next will be dead LCD back lamps.

Laptop screen is black

this sounds like your video card and it controls visual functions..have you tried booting direct to the hard drive and bypass the CD? if this does not work looks like its tech time or if you are tech savy and know if your video graphics or GPU is integrated or is separate from the mother board you might be able to get and repair the part yourself...usually they give some indication of getting ready to die when functioning normal screen will fade to white and force you to reboot..this happens on separate GPU systems ...integrated can just wipe out and not reboot..reset your memory sticks as a last ditch effort...If you are uncertain you can look the specs up by googling your model # on any smart phone Good luck GOD BLESS

I have a Gateway MX3702

Microsoft does not support XP systems any longer. its been a couple years at least! When they upgrade their servers, browsers, for the web, they don't consider what will happen to PCs with XP any longer. XP can no longer communicate with the new systems on the web anymore. It may conncet but soon most programs will be too advanced for XP to work with it. It would have to be updated through Windows Update program, but MS know longer updates XP programs. They are outdated. you need a new pc and OS which is now, Windows 10 latest version. You can still get pcs with WIndows 7 or 8 but they will be outdated soon too. Good Luck.

U sure you can change the cpu on your laptop? Most are soldered in and not upgradeable. Meanwhile, the change you are proposing amounts to next to nothing and is not worth the time, effort, and expense.. If you really want to increase speed you will need a new laptop with faster processor than what you have.

Gateway MX6447 system fan doesn't come on during normal use; the

On my computer, in Control Panel/Device Manager/System Devices I find five (five!) ACPI Fan devices listed. None of them have any adjustable parameters. However, in regedit I find two settings for each: 1) Slow the processor before increasing fan speed (this is ON), and 2) Increase fan speed before slowing the processor (this is OFF). So...on my computer I am going to say there is no registry setting to make the fan run all the time...can't say that's also true for yours.

I need to factory restore

Not enough information to answer. Need manufacturer and specific model number before we can help. Generally, though, laptops come with one of three ways to restore. 1. The manufacturer supplies a restore disk. This can be a self-booting image of the original load, or it can be an OS disk and an accompanying drivers disk that needs to be installed to restore the unit. 2. The manufacturer provides an application on the drive that the user is supposed to use at the time of purchase to create a set of recovery disks. This application is usually a 1-time-only thing and you cannot make multiple recovery sets with the app, but you can burn copies of the disk(s) you make. 3. The manufacturer places a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive that allows the user to restore the original factory image. There is usually a hotkey combination written into the BIOS that will divert the boot to the recovery sector when pressed at bootup. Some manufacturers offer both options 2 and 3. But if you got a set of recovery disks at time of purchase, chances are there is no recovery partition on the drive. Recovery partitions are nice and convenient until the problem is the hard drive itself. If you can provide a specific model number, we may be able to better determine which type of recovery option(s) are available for you PC.

Can i do recorded from surveillance camera with this model? mx6448 gate way notebook?

Sure, you can use most computers as servers to record surveillance video if you have the right hardware and recording software. This would all depend on what brand of surveillance cameras you have and if they are analog or digital and if your video is coming in through your network or by other video capture hardware.

HP 2000-410US when turned on the power light button blinks 1 time every 5 seconds, nothing elas

1. Disconnect anything that is connected to your laptop. Usb Flash discs, External HDDs, Wireless Devices using dongles etc. 2. Make sure that your device does not receive any power i.e. Disconnect your ac cable, and remove battery from your laptop. 3. Hold down the power button for 5 seconds. This would drain remaining power from your laptop. But as the power cable and the battery are disconnected, you should not expect anything to happen. 4. Identify where your RAM is located under your laptop. Unscrew the cover off, then remove the RAM from your laptop. Replace the cover temporarily. 5. Flip over your laptop. Connect your power cable to the laptop, NOT THE BATTERY NEH! Then press the power button. Sometimes your laptop will make long beeps to let you know the RAM is not inserted in your laptop. But nothing will happen on your monitor because it needs RAM to show you something. 6. After those beeps, remove the power cable. Press the Power Button to drain remaining power on your laptop. Flip the Laptop and replace the RAM you have removed earlier. 7. Insert your power cable and try restarting your laptop and see what happens. I am sure by now you should have some response on your laptop monitor. NB: While performing the above mentioned, remember PC or Laptop parts are delicate. Even static electricity can damage them. Thus before handling your laptop components, make sure you touch the wall or any large metal subject from time to time to discharge the static. Wear 100% cotton cloths as you are working on it. Bare feet even better to discharge the static
