Laptop screen is black
this sounds like your video card and it controls visual functions..have you tried booting direct to the hard drive and bypass the CD? if this does not work looks like its tech time or if you are tech savy and know if your video graphics or GPU is integrated or is separate from the mother board you might be able to get and repair the part yourself...usually they give some indication of getting ready to die when functioning normal screen will fade to white and force you to reboot..this happens on separate GPU systems ...integrated can just wipe out and not reboot..reset your memory sticks as a last ditch effort...If you are uncertain you can look the specs up by googling your model # on any smart phone Good luck GOD BLESS

If the system is not accessible even from "Safe Mode", then it sounds like the hard drive may becoming corrupt. Boot from the OS CD, and select the repair option - or try to boot from another boot cd, such as the Ultimate Boot CD at
www.ultimatebootcd.com and see if you can run a CHKDSK command to attempt to repair the hard drive. I can give more specific instructions if you tell me which operating system (Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7) you are using.
I have Gateway MX6214 and
I'm not sure what happened but we got disconnected somehow. What you want to do, seeing as you are using another laptop, is download the software from Gateway and save it onto a cd-rom. Insert the cd rom into the gateway, open the driver and install the driver onto the laptop. This should work. If it doesn't, let me know!
Hello i like to upgrade this lapbook to where i
ok ...first see that you need at least 1G of Ram on a computer for successful installation of windows7...
also need 13G of storage available on a partition of your Hdd...
the windows seven can be downloaded from the Microsoft site ...or bought from an software store...
I understood that until July it was distributed for free as a release and with a free license until Mars 2010 ...but they do not do that anymore ...
anyway it worth trying ...
I understood also that some had problems in buying it from the site and downloading it ...so I recommend to wait until next Mars when it will be a fully functional program ...and until than just prepare your laptop by upgrading Ram memory ...
anyway ...like vista it has issues with driver compatibility ...even if most are the same as in Vista ...some devises do not have drivers available for it ...and you will not be able to use them..
Gateway laptop skips
Make certain it is the correct media for the drive. If it is CDR or CDRW media, make sure it is rated for the write speed of the drive. High Speed media for a High Speed drive is labeled with the High Speed logo. If you are testing with an audio CD, play it in your home stereo first to make sure the disc works.
Check also the disc if it has scratches that's why it skips when played. Try a known good CD.
