My computer is dead, plugged into charger, but not charging

Hi,
Well, it obviously isn't getting power enough to boot. Take the battery out and use the ac adapter only. If you have the means, determine if the ac adapter is providing the correct voltage.
Also, try re-seating the memory.
Let me know what happens.
Good luck

My Gateway MX6956 Laptop kinda

no OS stated and is infected, sure. no answers possible ever. buy w7 from Microsoft and load it. "Now when i try to redownload windows" what does that mean, and what windows version. install media it is called now. and comes in only these forms not once stated by you. let me guess, (is fact) it is 13 years old today 2005 made and did have XP on it , the virus magnet from H3LL it is. so is it still stinky rotten XP and you are the last person on earth using XP>? seems so, right? XP also hates SATA chip. HDD SATA ports are dead with the installer, and is tricky F6, mode, floppy drive , to install the working driver, so that is true or the IDE HDD is dead. your hdd is SATA disk I looked it up. and most XP boot media can not see it. only Gate way media works here. buy W7 and install that. is the best cure. in dog years this PC is 91 years old, we retire them that old. all of them. next will be dead LCD back lamps.

Will not power on

When you connect the power, does the charge light lit up? this would tell you the power is transmitted to the battery, wich would mean your DC-jack (where the power goes in) is fine, and the problem might be fixed by:
  1. removing the battery,
  2. remove the power,
  3. hold powerbutton for 20 secs,
  4. re-insert power jack(not battery)
  5. press power on button.
If that didnt work, try the following to determine the DC-jack is the problem:
  1. remove battery
  2. insert power into dc-jack
  3. gently press the power plug into various directions while constantly pressing and releasing the power button.
  4. at some point the laptop should respond by turning on, meaning that you have a faulty dc-jack, which needs re-soldering or even relacement by soldering to repair.
Maybe you also notice that the power connector is very loose in the dc-jack, this might tell you that the dc-jack is the problem..hope it helps..

Sager 8880 wont run on ac adapter or charge

Hi Kenneth, Have you checked to see if the charge connector on the laptop is loose when you plug the charger into it? You can see if it is by plugging it in and wiggle it around a bit. The charge light on the laptop might stop blinking if its moved and contact is made. Thanks,Gary

No Operating System; Cannot Format User Partition - Gateway MX595

Hi,

It seems that you have a corrupt user partition on your drive which is stopping you from doing a recovery.

What you will need to do is delete the partition(s) on your Gateway by using a system repair utility CD. ERD Commander 2005 or Bart are utilites that will allow you to boot from a CD and then delete the partitions.

You could also use a friend's Windows XP CD just to delete the partitions.

Once this is done, you should be able to re-install your OS (assuming there is no physical damage on the hard disk.

Hope this helps.

I was watching a movie on my laptop yesterday when

Hi,

If your screnn is not showing up anything, even the BIOS screen while booting up. Then it could have damaged the Graphics card. You'll have to mostly replace *********** board. Your vendor can provide you a replacement price instead of buying a brand new one.

To avoid these scenerios of graphics card buring out, i would suggest to use the laptop keeping on a flat surface, especially not on pillows, bed and lap. Also dont use the laptop always connected to the power adapted. Connect only when the battery goes down. This will increase the battery life too.

My model number MX6956 MA7

Hi,

This is a problem of most of the Motherboard on laptops, I work for dell, and some of the laptops have also this problem. But it says, battery unknown or ac adapter unknown in the BIOS, and battery cannot be charged. We usually replace the Motherboard and Ac adapter. .. There is no problem on your battery, the problem is on the motherboard even if you flashed the BIOS. It will still not be detected.

Hope this helps.

When I turn on my computer, the screen stays black

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
