I had a Fuji camera which did similar. It turned out to be a defective component inside the camera. Fuji do a repair service where you contact them for an estimate before repair. If the camera is old, it may not be worth the cost and cheaper to buy a later model. Sorry

It's a gray area, your word against theirs. Unless you can find 100 people who have had the same problem, you have little chance of making a successful claim.
