New to this job. Have recorder. No instruction manual and I can't figure out how to use this device.

The instructions in the manual basically read as follows:

To record a new outgoing announcement:

1. When the handset is in idle mode, press MENU/SELECT
to enter the main menu.

2. Press MENU/SELECT again.

3. Press CID or DIR arrows to scroll to ANS SYS SETUP,
then press MENU/SELECT.

4. Press CID or DIR arrows to scroll to ANNOUNCEMENT,
then press MENU/SELECT, the system announces, "To
play, press 2. To record, press 7."

5. Press 7 to record an announcement, the system
announces, "Record after the tone, press 5 when you
are done."

6. Press 5 when you finish the recording. Your recorded
announcement plays.

To listen to the recorded announcement again, press 2 after playback is
completed.

To record a new announcement, press 7 and follow the above steps.

Are you interested in adding a new entry from scratch or from a Caller ID record?

To store a Caller ID record, with the handset in standby mode, press Menu # 2 1 3 (keypad digits). Use the up/down arrows to locate the incoming call information. Then press Edit until the phone number shows up in the correct format to dial the number. Then press Save and use the up/down arrows to select Phonebook. Then press Select. Edit the record if needed. (Save, Select and Edit are softkey options so check your screen for the button positions.)

I'm not sure how to enter a new record for the directory.

Click on the Operating Instructions tab. The direct link to the manual is http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/KXTGA641.PDF . Since the handset is compatible with several base units, you may want to search for the manual for the base itself. Start here: http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support and enter the model number. However, I didn't find a specific record for the base for a couple of the bases that I tried.

We just got one of these today at a thrift shop. I thought it was supposed to record what you say into the microphone but it doesn't. It records your "compositions". Press "record" then play something on the keyboard. Then hit "Play" and it should play it back for you.

We can't figure out how to get the darn microphone to work. Is it supposed to work or is it just for looks?

The device unit?U must have DVD/VCR recorder player to record things out of cable tv or other tv signals.Not just a DVD/VCR player.Read ur manual for instruction,u hook up a VCR before right,the same principle.
