It may not neccesarily be the microdrive. I had the same thing happen twice while using a new Sandisk 15Mb CF card. The only batteries I've used are the Epson ones that came with camera, but the manual says that the time may need to be reset sometimes after changing the batteries. This happened to me NOT after changing them though. let me know if you figure something out. If it happens again to me, I'm going to talk to support.

While my epson batteries were charging, I used a set of alkalines, and something similar to that happened to me (had to re-set time a bunch). When I pulled the batteries out, they were warm enough that the little built in test strip (a thermal lcd) was 'lit up'. It could be a battery load problem.

The 3000Z does not have AF assist, and I assume the 3100Z does not have one either.

Epson 850Z diopter adjustment

I did the same thing with the diopter, but no damage seems to have come of it. It does feel very stiff and 'clicky' anyway, but it does work. You will only be able to notice any adjustment to the diopter when the camera is on.

What is the battery life using the LCD with this camera?

Batterie life seems to be a couplre of hours of continuous use. I don't know how this compares. I can't seem to get regular AA batteries to make the camera work in LCD mode.

Tiffen 2X teleconvertor telephoto lens

I was testing the new Kenko 2x teleconverter I just got. Seems to work, but only at full zoom. But I left the epson supplied adapter ring on when I turned the camera off, and it interferred with the lens cover, and jammed it. It's a 4 leaf shutter assembly, and mine is screwed up so it won't open or close. Needless to say I'm kind of unhappy. I've heard Epson service is good, guess I'm about to find out. If you use the adapter, take it off when you turn the camera on or off!
