Remove the battery and check the voltage on the battery , If this is low then the battery can be defective or there is no charging to the battery.So remove the battery and connect the charger to the laptop, then check the charging voltage on the battery terminals on the laptop. If there is no voltage then the main board charging circuit is defective as the charge indication is also absent.
This might require some good testing within the board and must be attempted only if you are good in checking circuits using a multimeter/test instruments.If voltage is present then the battery can be defective.
Probably the charger is not working right. Please check with with a spare charger or borrow with someone to check. if the laptop switches on the charger has the problem.
