I have just installed a pilot X5 tiller on my boat. It replaces a ST 4000 Autolhem. I installed the fluxgate compass at the same place than the previous autolhem compass. There is a difference of about 110 degrees between the indication of X5 control panel and steering compass, and seatrial calibration is not possible. What can I do

I suggest you sell that before you have serious problems and no one will buy it. Yeah, that's what I would do... after all the two best days of a boat owner experience are the day you buy it... and the day you get rid of the money pit.

SOURCE: my Ray Marine ST 1000

the worm gear that is inside the unit may need to lubricated,, remove the bottom case and lubricate gears and shaft with a teflon or silicone based lube. also on my sailboat when this happened I found that I needed to re-calibrate the unit - take the boat out into a very calm and open water and ' spin the boat ' in CAL mode ( this will re-orientate the internal compass ).
have fun on the water and have a great night,

SOURCE: I have a Raymarine ST2000+ tiller pilot. In going

Hi!

I can't see being 5 degrees off line much of a problem as far as the sweep is concerned.

I'm fairly sure that when you do your 1 1/2 to 2 SLOW circles that the tillerpilot will correct itself to read closer to your actual compass heading as well.

Hope this helps you out.

Raymarine smartpilot x-5. The fluxgate compass is some 45 - 60 degrees out from the boat compass. I have tried to recalibrate but this does not solve the problem. Any ideas?

First of all - is the boat compass correct? How does it align with COG? Secondly, do you have a magnetic field that interfere with the fluxgate? To test for this you can use the compass on your smartphone or a handheld compass, move about in the boat and keep the phone/compass aligned with the keel. If the heading drifts in the area where you have your fluxgate today, move it.

Hi!
The ST1000+ does not have an internal GPS. What it does have is an electronic compass underneath the keypad. When you order the Tillerpilot to steer to a bearing, the unit uses the electronic compass to steer using a series of corrections.

Just in case you've misplaced your Owners Manual, you can use this link to download it to your computer: http://www.raymarine.com/productdocumentfinder.aspx

Click on your language preference, then Autopilots from the drop-down menu, tillerpilots and finally ST 1000+. The pdf file for your unit is 81130_6.pdf

Hope this helps and happy boating!

I installed a Raymarine compass sensor in a GRP sailing boat underneath the chart table at least 50 cm away from metal and magnets. It is connected to a SP X-5 computer unit and a ST6002 autopilot...

If I were troubleshooting this, I'd manually adjust the orientation of the compass sensor until it matched the true heading. Once that was done, I'd move it side to side to ensure it's changing in the correct directions. If not, the unit could be upside down. Let me know how this turns out.

I have just purchased a simrad tp22, it has arrived with no instruction book on how to install it, Can the tp be installed on either port or starbord, if so how is this acheived

when installing the unit --- you can mount it on the port or starbord side, and when all is in place you will need to go out and ' spin ' the boat ( this callibrates the internal compass ). there is a certain distance that the auto pilot needs to be mounted away from the tiller and sometimes a special bracket is needed to mount correctly. it has been years since I installed the one on my boat and not having the manual in front of me I don't want to just throw out numbers --- if I was looking at the boat and tiller I could tell you where to put it. also, if you are interfacing the unit with a GPS or Radar you will want to get the manual to make sure those wires get to the right place.
there is a company that I use to be associated with down in Seattle, WA ( The Off Shore store,, 206-632-3025 ) -- they are a Simrad dealer and they have all the manuals there and they would be more than happy to e-mail you the info that you are looking for,, they are nice people ( at least they were 6 years ago ). they can also order you any extra parts that you may need to make your installation easier. ((( tell them that Chris that use to work for Todd sent you to them -- you are sure to get special treatment then ))). enjoy the water and wind,

compass needles are affected by iron objects and can also be affected by field magnetism generated by current flowing through a wire .Bilge pumps , winch motors are heavy current drawers and they could affect the compass operation
while the voltage is low the field of the magnetism around the wire can influence the compass heading so check for any electronic apparatus wiring close to the unit ( radio , radar etc
it may be necessary to run the powers wires in an insulated sheath ( like coaxial cable or other insulated power cables) around sensitive equipment
talk with marine equipment installers to get better ideas as to prevent interference with the compass

The wheeldrive is only a mechanical actuator ,it will not pilot ,it will only drive the wheel ,you need a control unit ,several 4000 or 3000 units are suitable ,
some have an internal compass others need an external compass
