Ihave a sagate 320 inturnal HD that was installed on my desktop Comp. 1.5 years ago I am getting window massage to download all my data due to the HD failing. I am looking at the date code and it appears...

It sounds as if the SMART measurements on your Seagate 320GB hard drive are triggering the Windows message advising that the drive is failing.

You would be best advised to backup your data from this drive to a different drive or on to DVD media (depending on how much data is involved).

To test the failing Seagate disk, download a copy of Hiren's Boot CD which is a CD image file (.ISO) and must be burnt to a blank CD disc - then boot the computer with the failing disk from this CD - then select DOS Programs on the initial menu, then choose Hard Disk Tools and then HDAT2 - this is a tool which will let you try to recover any bad sectors on your boot disk.

On the Hard Disk Tools menu there is also a SMARTUDM - HDD S.M.A.R.T. viewer which will let you examine exactly which areas of the Seagate disk are giving the problem leading to the failure message.

Barracuda (ST380215A) 80 GB IDE (ULTRA ATA) 7200.10 Hard Drive Problem While installing Windows Xp sp3 hard drive not detect @ partition screen System configuration is as: Processor:- AMD Athlon XP...

Hi,
Seems like your hard drive is malfunctioning, try another HD. That 80gb is already obsolete and the circuit board might have some defect.
If you could pull out the underside circuit and clean the gold contact points and try it again, if still not working...... buy a new one!
Check also the jumper and cable it must be in the "master" configuration.

Hope that helps you out!

Seagate Barracuda ATA V 120GB. Using this as an internal storage drive (slave drive). Drive spins up but not seen in BIOS. Drive has clicking sounds every few seconds which sounds like the head searching....

It sounds like a problem with the card on the drive. You could try replace the card with one from an identical drive just to see the result you will get. I have read a lot about what they call "the click of death". So it could well be time for a new drive ckanca. The fact that the bios isnt detecting the drive points to the card. You sould also ensure there is no dirt on the cards contacts with the drive body (by removing the card and cleaning them aswell as ensuring they all make proper contact).

Seagate hard drive moved from one computer to another won`t boot

Now this is just my opinion but i tried to do the same thing one time and it would not work so I was left with one choice. Do a fresh install, I bought a second hdd and did a fresh install then plugged my original hdd in as a secondary so I could still access my old files.

What to do with unreadable but recognised hard disk segate 400GB

After data is recovered, it should be moved to another drive to keep safe. The drive that was recovered has to be reformatted and checked for errors before storing more data.

Seagate barracuda + usb harddrive enclosure cant access hard dive

First, neither of the links work. The amazon shows a power adapter and the Seagate defaults to their home page. But I think I get the idea. You purchased a usb drive enclosure and a new hard drive and now it doesn't work.

The problem is that the hard drive has not been initiated, formatted or assigned a drive letter.
Plug in the drive
Click on the Start button
Right click on Computer
Select Manage
A screen opens, click on Disk Management
All the drives known and unknown will appear on the right.
Find the drive that says unknown, right click over the text and select Initialize Disk.
When done, right click the blank space to the right labelled Unallocated and select new simple volume then follow the steps to format and assign a drive letter.
If you are only going to be using this drive on this computer then format ntfs, if it maybe be connected to other devices including Mac, you may want to use fat32 or exfat.
Whats the Difference Between FAT32 exFAT and NTFS

Seagate 160GB SATA Hard Drive Installation.

Hi, Was the original 20Gb HD also a SATA or was it installed as an IDE? Try installing a fresh clean Windows rather than the restore disc. However, you will need the drivers for the SATA 160Gb and press F6 when Windows installers ask you to. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Hope this be of some idea/help. Good luck and kind regards.
