Dell 926 frozen up

I tried to send some pictures to the printer last night. They started to print but I noticed my color was off and that the cartridge needed to be replaced. So I canceled the job and the printer has been frozen ever since. The cartridges won't even move when I lift the lid in order for me to complete the new install. Whenever I send a job it says the printer is busy and the message on the printer is "Printing". Thanks!

    After trying to cancel a print job, my printer froze and will not accept new print jobs, even if I turn it off and then on again. When it turns back on, it displays the "Copy" screen, and won't accept commands either from the buttons on the copier itself or from the computer; even when unplugged from the computer, it does not work.

    Same issue... My printer prints a document but then can't seem to remove the job from the print queue afterwards. Result: I can't print a second document without rebooting my machine. Turning the printer on and off has no effect. The job is still stuck (deleting).

Hi,
As you have already worked with Tech support at Dell, they may have exploited all the options but do try the following steps and tell me if that worked
1. DIsconnect you printer from the computer

  1. Press the down arrow button until Maintenance is highlighted and press the Select button.

  2. Press the down arrow button until Reset Defaults is hightlighted and press the Select button.

  3. The printer displays a confirmation message. Highlight Yes and press the Select button
This would reset your printer to factory defaults.

2. Unistall the drivers using the following file
R166225 .zip from the link below
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&deviceid=9913&libid=40&releaseid=R166225&vercnt=1&formatcnt=0&SystemID=PRN_PHT_964&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=-1&impid=-1
-> Save the file to desktop
->Double click to extract the file and see where the file is being extracted.
-> Go to extracted file folder ,right click on the file named setup and left click on run as adminstrator.
-> Follow on screen instructions and it would uinstall the printer

3. Restart your computer.
4. Install the drivers back on to the computer using the printer cd. Note :connect the printer only when prompted on the screen.

Once the printer has been installed , we need to update the printer aswell .

5. Download the printer firmware from the link below

6. Follow on screen instructions to install the same
7. Check if the printer works after this , otherwise its time for a new one.

Take out the cartridges
disconnect printer from computer
Turn off the printer

On the computer cancel documents in queue
if using a straight USB connection, delete all instances of printer. else remove duplicate printer icons.
reboot.

Reconnect printer (swap cables if not detected)
Insert the cartriges

Try printing again

Try these steps if this did not resolve try to clear the memory of the printer
and try to print ..

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

Try this...shut down the printer. Insert new cartridge, let the printer cycle out with new cartridge. then reboot the computer. This should solve the problem. The cache in the printer will not cycle out. It wants to see the printer as a new entity

Start, control panel, printers, your printer, printer preferences, advanced. Uncheck the complete-a-print boxes and also check to make sure the print in black & white box in unchecked.

I have a Dell 926 printer not even a year old and the last (2) weeks it has been printing out blank pages. Please help Thank you

1) IF...IF...you had not printed with it for a while prior to the two weeks that it's been doing this, then you could try cleaning off the ink cartridge jet (or whatever it's called) with a Q-tip dampened with alchohol and see if that helps. It should tell you if ink is available.

2) This is a longshot, BUT, if for some reason you haven't powered off your computer during this "printer problem" time. I only mention this because those of us who have had computers for a long while may have listened to the advice to NOT turn off the computer. I followed that advice for a long time. I'm still bad about not powering down nightly, so thought I would mention this. My Lexmark Z705 recently did what your Dell 926 is doing. I tried powering off/on the printer, tried a fresh cartridge and nothing. I tried the "test page" option in the Lexmark troubleshooting software and "nothing". It wasn't until I rebooted my computer that I hit paydirt and the printer started working. Go figure.

Maybe it has not ink for the color you want to print or the printhead is clogged. In this last, you should change the printhead.

All in one 926 cartridge problem

maybe you need to make sure it is set for color, click start then control panel then printers ,right click on dell photo ,click printing preferences, unclick printing in black and white , i hope this helps

My Dell Photo 926 stopped printing in color. It prints in black and white. If I make a copy, it can still make a color copy. I'm stuck.

if u can make a copy in color , rest assure ,nothing wrong with the printer .

it s only needs a setting change to be done .

is your pc running on xp r vista ?>

if xp : click start-->run-->type control printers --> your 926 printer should be displayed -->right click on printer icon and choose preferances-->..click on advanced option --more options --see if print color image in black and white is checked ? if so uncheck it

if vista : click start ---the cursor would flash on "start search "...typre printers and press enter key ...then ..your 926 printer should be displayed -->right click on printer icon and choose preferances-->..click on advanced option --more options --see if print color image in black and white is checked ? if so uncheck it

All I did was pull the printer out where I could see the back of it. And then I unplugged those tw plugins and plugged them right back in. And it worked!!!!

Communication Error DELL 926 AIO Printer

Found on another forum. For 926 this worked great.
1. Go to Control Panel - Printers : Delete 926 printer
2. Go to Control Panel - Programs and Features : Uninstall All Dell 926 related software. There should be 3 programs. (When prompted to restart, respond to wait.
3. Rename Folder C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\DRIVERS\W32x86 to W32X86OLD
4. Now restart your computer
5. Reinstall 926 Software.
This worked terrific for me.
