Keep getting paper jam error with my hp 1610 al in one printer there is no paper jammed in the printer

If your printer has a paper tray, do not fill the tray. Overfilling the paper tray is frequently causes paper jams. Many printers have sliding mechanisms that allow different types and sizes of paper to be fed into the printer. If the slider is not correctly positioned, it can cause a paper jam.

Shows out of paper. Says paper jam. Open door . Clear carriage. Press ok. Cannot solve problem!!! 75 years old with 1st computer!

Out of paper
Cause: There is not enough paper in the input tray.
Solution: If the HP All-in-One is out of paper or there are only a few sheets
remaining, load more paper in the input tray. If there is paper in the input tray, remove
the paper, tap the stack of paper against a flat surface, and reload the paper into the
input tray. To continue your print job, press OK on the control panel of the HP All-in-
One.
Cause: The rear door is off the HP All-in-One.
Solution: If you removed the rear door to clear a paper jam, replace it.
rear door.
Paper can also jam in the automatic document feeder. Several common actions can
cause paper to jam the automatic document feeder:
• Placing too much paper in the document feeder tray. For information on the maximum
number of sheets allowed in the automatic document feeder, see Technical
information.
• Using paper that is too thick or too thin for the HP All-in-One.
• Trying to add paper to the document feeder tray while the HP All-in-One is feeding
pages.
To clear a paper jam from the rear door
1. Press in the tab on the left side of the rear door to release the door. Remove the door
by pulling it away from the HP All-in-One.
CAUTION: Trying to clear a paper jam from the front of the HP All-in-One can
damage the print mechanism. Always access and clear paper jams through the
rear door.

Try clearing all paper from all carriages (Top,Rear, Front, etc. then reinserting proper amounts. Even the smallest piece of paper can cause a jam. Here is a user manual in case you don't have one you can get it here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00844812.pdf

This is a PDF and it is searchable and easy to navigate (Red lettering will take you to that section), so you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (if you don't already have it you can get free here:
http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Also, once you have done all you can turn the printer off for a moment then turn it back on.
Hope this helps. Good luck

Documnet feeder jam

Check input paper feeder at top too - easy to miss. Top flips open with a firm (but not excessive) pull, so you can look there.

If you are sure you've opened and looked under every available panel on the printer (there are many!), turn it off and unplug for half a minute. Make sure all panels are back properly in place, but leave out the paper tray (and no paper either in the rear input paper feeder).

Plug in and turn on. Wait for it to finish its start-up sequence - it should complain about no paper.

Check the paper is flat and straight in the paper tray, and no excess room between paper and guides, and put it in again.

Print test page.

How is it now?

Lexmark t640: paper jam in the back door. I can see the edge of the paper. How do I release the tension on the rollers so I can slide it out? Now it is in there tight and to grab it just tears off a piece...

Hope this helps....
Explanation of the paper jam message

A 241.09 Paper Jam message indicates that the printer thinks a sheet of paper has jammed at the front of the printer. The jammed sheet of paper is most likely to be found in one of the paper trays or under the toner cartridge.
NOTE: If you select Show areas on the operator panel, you can view one or more images to help you locate and clear the jam.

Clearing the jam
To resolve the paper jam message, you must first clear the entire paper path. To access the jam area, you will need to open one or more of the paper trays. Follow the steps in the table below to help you locate and clear the jam.
Step Action Image 1 Open the printer paper tray (tray 1), and remove any jammed media you find there. pattlnk_10222007_1922-enus28872_24109paperjam1_t64x_en_us.gif 2 Open the front cover and remove the toner cartridge. Examine the area inside the printer and remove any jammed media you find there. pattlnk_10242007_159-enus28872_24109paperjam5_t64x_en_us.gif 3 If you have a duplex option installed, also remove the duplex access tray and remove any jammed media you find there. pattlnk_10302007_1559-enus28860_24x17paperjamduplex_t64x_en_us.gif 4 If you were printing from an optional paper tray, such as tray 2 or tray 3, open any optional trays, starting at the top, and remove any jammed media. Pull the print media either up or down. If it does not pull easily one way, try the other way pattlnk_10222007_1957-enus28872_24109paperjam3_t64x_en_us.gif 5 If you are printing from an optional 2000-sheet feeder, open the front door. Press the elevator button (A) to lower the tray. Remove any partially fed media from the feeder.
NOTE: Make sure the stack of print media is straight and pushed all of the way into the feeder. Incorrectly loaded paper is the most common cause of paper jams from a 2000-sheet feeder option.
pattlnk_10222007_2110-enus28872_24109paperjam4_t64x_en_us.gif
For a larger image, click here. 6 Finally, reinstall all of the paper trays and press the pattlnk_10222007_2117-select_button.jpg button to try printing again.
NOTE: You may receive a different paper jam message informing you that another sheet of paper is jammed elsewhere in the printer. If this occurs, the error code will indicate the location. Click here for a diagram showing the error code locations. The paper path will vary, depending on the paper source and number of paper feed options installed.
Remove any jammed sheets of paper you find and try printing again.
