You have to hook it up to a standard Yellow/Red/White RCA jack. If it doesn't work on one, try another. Make sure you're on the proper input you hooked it up to on the T.V. If this doesn't work, try hooking it up to a different T.V. to rule out the Wii as the problem. Try hooking up a DVD player to the same RCA jack as the Wii was on the Hitachi. After all of these troubleshooting methods, you should be able to get your Wii properly hooked up.

Why cant i get my wii console to work in color

Well it might either be the tv or the av cables that is causing the wii system to be in black grey and white then.
Picture Is Black and White or Does Not Appear Situation:
  • The console powers on and shows a black and white image on the television screen
  • The console powers on and there is no image on the television

What to do:
  • Determine whether the Standard AV Cables (packaged with the system) or the Component Cables (sold separately) are being used.

  • AV Cables

    • Ensure the yellow, red, and white cables are connected to the correct corresponding inputs on the TV. (How To)

    • Try another set of inputs on the TV, or hooking the Wii console up to another TV.

    • If the TV does not have the yellow, red and white inputs, it will most likely have component inputs which allow standard AV cable use. Try these AV hookup steps. (How To)

  • Component Cables

    • Ensure the red, blue and green video cables are connected to the correct corresponding inputs on the TV. (How To)

    • Try another set of inputs on the TV, or hooking the Wii console up to another TV.

Still Not Resolved:
  • If the television is continues to show a black and white image when powering on the Wii console, then the problem is likely with the system and it will need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 so that we may assist you further.

My Wii console will turn on, but no signal is received at the TV. The console powers up, you can load and eject discs into it but nothing comes up on the TV. I tried switching TV's and it still didn't...

If you switched tvs and no help than that tells you that the cable that hooks the wii to the tv is probably bad try a new component video or rca cable whichever you are using

I just hooked my wii & all we get is black & white

I had the same problem. Instead of going directly into the TV, I tried plugging the component cable into the auxiliary jack in my digital cable box and that seemed to fix it. Works great now.

T he console lights but the TV does not recognizw

Try switching to a different video source, hook up the Wii using svideo, composite RGB, or old style RCA. See if they all fail similarly. If one works when the others fail, then diagnose whether it is the port on the TV, by hooking another device, or the port on the Wii.

Flicking wii

if it's every now and again it my well be a loose connection in the scart/video adapter on the back of the Wii or TV. It's unlikely to be the TV if its not doing it all the time or at regular intervals
have you tried ot on another TV.

Good luck

How to connect a wii to my tv

Hello,

Please take your AV Cord and hook it up to your wii and your tv. There are 3 colors. Red/White/Yellow

Once hooked up, take your remote and switch the Video Input on your tv. (look for the input button)

Make sure the Wii is powered on and you should see it pop up on the screen.

Hooking up wii and dvd to tv. i have Direct TV, a DVD player and need to hook up a Wii console. i have the direct tv DVR connected to the DVD player by coaxial cable and the yellow/red/white cables...

does your tv have scart sockets?

if so you can buy this adapter that on one side is the scart socket and the other is the yellow red white sockets

something like this

TV went to black and white when hooking up the wii

You probably don't have something hooked up right or connected all the way. If you are using component video cables, make sure that all of the different plugs are plugged into the matching socket on your TV. Also, make sure you have your TV on the right channel (3 or 4) if that's how you have it setup.
Otherwise, you will want to look at the input settings on your TV and make sure you are receiving the correct input, and if you have your Wii plugged into a VCR instead of directly to your TV, try hooking it up directly to see if it works.
If that doesn't work, try using a different TV - especially if it's a TV you know works in color with a Wii. If it is still in black and white, you might need to take it back to the store and exchange it for a new one.
