Connecting laptop/computer to wireless router If you have a wireless router and it is connected to the DSLor cable modem and Internet then -To connect to your wireless router, the router needsits wireless settings to be configured with the SSID, encryption key etc., alsothe wireless cards and wireless adapters in all the laptops/computers needs tobe configured with these router's wireless settings. It could be a faulty wiring connection from the ethernet cable to the RJ45 (plug). Exchange the cables from your PC1 and PC2 to confirm it. If that worked then you can either buy another set of cable (just make sure to try it in the store first). Or if you have a wire cutter especially made for ethernet cables, then just cut the RJ45 and replace it with a new one. You can buy those on CD-R king too.
well in a hard spot if your using dialup as means of connecting to the internet then only one PC at a time can use dialup connections now if say it was a DSL modem then from the DSL modem or DSL Router Modem you would need RJ-45 cables from the DSL router modem to the two PCs
Connect the lan cable from the dsl modem into the first port on your netgear router .. make sure your dsl modem is on PPPoE mode so that it autoconnects.. Now just connect to your wireless router via your pc interface.. *Do add a network key to your wireless network to avoid unwanted access
theres a possiblity that the modem is set to bridge mode,in that way,you will not be able to connect to the internet direclty to the modem,192.168.1.1 is usually the deault gatewayy address for almost all verizon modem and username is admin and password is admin as well,if admin didnt take for the password, try using password as the password
assuming you have a wireless router, make sure you have purchased the correct one, as cable and dsl routers are different, as cable modems need to be connected to the router via a cable and dsl normally have a modem that can't be connected to a router, and you will require a modem/router.
You can only share a wireless connection when the line comes directly to the router and not through a pc, as the pc with the connection will have to always be on.
