Most likely you can swap the phones. On older systems it might not work so I would try one first. You do gain extra buttons which can be programmed as desired. Any buttons you had on your M7310 would be on the T7316e. You can check the buttons by pressing Feature *0 this will allow you to check any button on the phone.
you may need to reprogram some buttons. Read this: https://downloads.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100142786
This is the telephone user card. Take note 'button inquiry' 'Button programming' and button labeling (desktop assistant (downloadable button labeler)(change font for size and bold the lettering)). If you need the feature codes for your Norstar sets... google 'Norstar feature codes"
feature 983 it will say log- press 1020000 it will say password-under that it says reset-push that soft key!! press release. default will be 0000 once you access voicemail(981)
Hi there, in regards to voicemail, many service providers have different ways of setting up voicemail ... most of them have different input types of codes which you can enter with your phone keypads. This will either activate or disactivate the voice mail. The best thing is to ring them up and ask them for this code. I can help you further but then I will need all your details of your phone provider and I think this will be a longer process than calling them. I hope this helps and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck with that. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately it is NOT just a simple job of moving the instrument, one has to reprogram the system to "Tailor" it to everything. You need to use the manual and reprogram the system to it's new configuration.
If the extension was a swap of the old M7310 with a new(ish) M7310 no additional programming should be necessary. However if the phone was replaced with another type of nortel set(M7208, M7324,T7313 etc.) then the phone will default to its base features. To re-program the feature keys press feature *3, the button you wish to program, and the feature code for that button
