You may be in the overstrike ribbon. Try CODE period, comma or slash. (I can't ever remember which) to get out of it.

IBM Wheelwriter 2, the bottom half of the letters are not printing. It is not the ribbon because I have changed it out.

Two things come to mind for this problem. First try pushing down firmly on both ends of the black rubber platen roller. Sometimes the black plastic latch on either side may break causing one side of the roller to lift up causing partial print. The other possibility is the ribbon is not lifting correctly. A technician can adjust the ribbon lift. After typing a few letters, take the ribbon out and look at the letters on the ribbon. Are they in the middle of the ribbon or are they at the top or bottom of the ribbon? middle of ribbon is correct.

IBM 1500 by Lexmark

If it is moving as the hammer is struck, then it's one of two things. Either the hammer is moving too slowly, or the ribbon is moving too quickly. Since this is a rather old machine, it seems more likely things would slow down than speed up. I'd check the hammer solenoid. See if it's dirty, or needs lubricated. I wish I could give you more advice on this, but I am not familiar with this specific model, and was unable to find any kind of service manual, or troubleshooting information for it.

The ribbon is not moving for each new letter being typed. Its very slow so when you are typing a word it just keeps going over the same spot on the ribbon.

I'll try thisagain use the code key with one of these 3 keys ,.
. , or / this will take you out of the uverstrike ribbon mode.

Wheelwriter 30 Series 2

First off make sure the ribbon turns freely.Take off the ribbon and turn the ribbon wheel in the direction of the arrow and see if it turns smoothly. If it turns smoothly the ribbon motor is not moving or the gear is not moving. take off the ribbon and type. See if the black ribbon drive gear on the ribbon deck moves as you type. If not the motor is N.G. or the ribbon gear clutch spring is not grabbing the gear to turn it. Lawrence
