ASUS A7V8X motherboard


Can you tell me if the reference motherboard is a direct board for board replacement for the Compaq Presario SR 1030NX. I can probably replace the hardware ok, but messing around with the bios or other settings changes etc on a new board would be a challenge to me to say the least.

Its not exact. its not made for compaq by asus so bios has to be used from asus site not compaq.
it wil fit in it and run but drivers and support is no longer a compaq

Sata unable to recognize my book 500gb
The A7V8X-LA motherboard only supports SATA1. Your new hard drive is likely SATA2 (SATA-II). You'll likely need to change jumpers on the drive to make it compatible with SATA1.

It's a tiny bit slower than SATA2 (okay, twice as slow). But, it's still faster than PATA (IDE).

Presario SR1030NX - with a ASUS A7V8X-LA motherboard, won't boot.
those are notoriously bad boards. i have worked on 2 or 3 of those boards and founds its adefect on some voltage regulator on motherboard..
best thing u can do is upgrade motherboard and cpu and ram in a combo.. don't forget power supply unit, new stuff needs at least 350watts
