I've just bought an Lg DV 390H DVD player. Once installed with component video and audio direct into the TV and turned on it comes up initially with HELLO and then it simply goes to SEt. The instuctions say that when you turn it on for the first time you must select a language to use the unit by using the up down and <> keys. The remote appears to be working but the up down and <> keys have no effect. The only key that has any effect is the off key.

Hi,

Since the unit is new, your options are:

  • unplug from the mains for more than 15 minutes to reset and revert to factory default:
  • hard reset - on most LG units, there is a pinhole above the DVInput. With a pin, paperclip or blunt end of the needle, press on the recessed/hidden switch;
  • return the unit to point of purchase for replacement.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

How do I connect my lg drt389h dvd recorder to my ferguson fl26wx1 tv. I can play dvd's but i'm unable to record anything from my sky box.

Hi, When you bought your DVD player it comes with 1 type of cable. RCA type cable 2 audio and 1 video. Yellow for video and red and black for audeo. Your TV should have RCA plugs on back and match them up with DVD player. Most DVD player now come with optical out put, TV must have input to complete. If you have that you can get better sound from them. Good luck

I have a Denon AVR2307 to which is connected, via optical audio and component video a DVD player/recorder and this works well but in order to take some of the work off the player part I've bought another...

HDMI signal from DVD can not be down converted to analog component signal.
Connect your new DVD to a component input 1..4. Make sure that component input assigned to desired input (dvd/vcr/sat/) (setup - input setup - input - component assign - component x etc). Connect coax output of DVD to coax x input of the receiver and assign it (setup- input setup - "input" - digital assign ..). Probably you need to setup DVD output resolution to 720i or 720p in dvd setup menu.

I Have just bought this reviever (Yamaha Rx-v365)and im just trying to work out how to best connect all my devises. I have Tivo, Lg DVD player with both yellow, red white cables and blue green red cable...

Hi, firstly some terminology:
yellow cable - video composite (worst quality)
white/red - stereo analog audio
blue/green/red - video component (second best quality after HDMI)

You are correct that RX-V365 doesn't do audio over HDMI. Moreover it also doesn't do any video processing, which means composite video input will go only to composite video output (and not to component); compoment input only to component output and HDMI input only to HDMI output.

If you have more devices of same video output (in your example the component blue/green/red), you can connect them to TV via the receiver. But if only one device of same video output, you can connect it directly to TV. There is no reason to go through your receiver for video.

For audio, you can use either the analog stereo white/red cables (rx365 has 5 such inputs) or better use digital SPDIF connection, which is slightly better quality and more importantly supports 5.1 sound. There are 2 types - coaxial (orange RCA plug, can use basic rca cable) and optical (square black connector). Receiver has 1x coax spdif input and 2x optical spdif inputs. Look at your other equipment to decide which cable to use.

For the analog audio inputs, I think you can assign it either to composite video or component video. So for DVD audio white/red plugs, you can choose if either Video composite yellow plug named DVD will be used, or component blue/green/red named DVD will be used.

I just bought a yamaha rx-v365 receiver and hooked to my cable box via a hdmi and optic audio cable. this is working fine but i cant get a dvd player to work via a component and coax audio cable. neither...

Make sure that the DVD player is connected into the correct inputs on the receiver and that the receiver also has the correct input selected to play. If your TV also has component video inputs it is best to connect the player directly to the TV. Otherwise, make sure you have the TV connected to the receiver via component video out.

Denon AVR-488 , problems routing cable box through receiver to tv

If you don't have one, the manual is available online: http://static.highspeedbackbone.net/pdf/AVR-488-OM-E_101.pdf

Suggestions:

1. Reset to default values. Per page 36 of manual: 1. Turn off Power. 2. Press Power while simultaneously pressing Speaker A and Speaker B. 3. Once the display starts flashing at intervals of about 1 second, release the two buttons.

2. Make sure you have AM or FM radio reception. This makes sure your speakers, amps, etc are connected and working correctly.

3. Connect DVD player to HDMI 1 in and TV to HDMI Monitor Out.
Play a known good DVD that works when you connected the DVD directly to the TV via HDMI.

Select the DVD/HDP input on the receiver and play the DVD. You should not have to perform any input assignments, etc. It should just work, as HDMI1 is the default system setting for DVD.

4. If possible, obtain a STB with HDMI out & repeat step 3 using the HDMI2 TV/CBL input. Keeping the signal path all digital (HDMI) will give you a better picture quality than forcing several analog to digital conversions (component video is analog).

4A. To use the component connection, first test by connecting the STB directly to the TV via component video/audio if possible. This tests that the component video output of the STB is working correctly.

Next, remove direct connection and connect via receiver. Connect STB to receiver as shown on page 13 in manual. Connect component video output from STB to component video input #2 (tv/cbl) on receiver. Connect the STB audio output to the corresponding tv/cbl audio inputs.

Make sure nothing is connected to the HDMI2 input or to any other TV/CBL inputs (composite video, s-video, digital coax audio).

Now select the TV/CBL input and turn on the STB. You should have both audio & video.

Onkyo HT-S6100 to OPPO Dv 980H to Sony Bravia KDL 40W4100

Make sure none of the Digital or Component Input Assignments are programmed, if you're not using them. Set them to "----". This may help. Some of the Component input assignments may over-ride your other input assignments (perhaps even the HDMI input assignments).

Component video signal between KLH DVD8350 & Vizio 32" PlasmaHDTV

If the Visio TV has more than one input, don't forget to use its remote to make sure the correct input is selected. It probably wouldn't hurt to put a DVD into the player, confirm its running from the front panel counters) and let it keep running as you troubleshoot. At least then you'll know there is an active video source once you find it. Another thing you can try is to put in a music CD, if the player accepts these too (most do). Then when you get the TV set to the right input, at least you'll hear music, and can then go back to trying a DVD.

I know you're using component video, so remember that unlike HDMI devices, the TV is unable to switch to the correct source automatically. So it may just be that you've never had to switch the TV's input source before. Good luck! :-)

Yamaha dv-s5650

I have a Yamaha DV-S5550 and recently did the same thing. Our players may have the same menu system. Give this a try. Turn the power to the dvd player on. Using the remote, follow this key sequence exactly. Press the onscreen button. Press the down directional key once. Press the right directional key once. Press the down directional key six times. Press the right directional key once. Press the down directional key once. Press the left directional key once. Press the onscreen button. Your player should now be set to NTSC output. Good luck!
