Prob: Has worked great until other day turned on and was unreadable, as if not there. No power failure or bad shut down on last use. Can be heard starting up when turned on but nothing to computer. SOURCE: Info: barracuda 500 gig in

Quite commonly on external drives the usb interface will go bad in the external drives the hard drive enclosed is probably functioning ok. Would try a different usb cord just to make sure the cord is not the issue. If still does not work you may need to purchase a new enclosure that will have a new usb interface circuit board with it. If taken in for service they will probably tell you to purchase a new external drive.
Here is a video on recovering data a side from an external drive.Some steps are not necessary if you have access to an ide/sata to usb adapter. These are pretty inexpensive on ebay as well as replacement enclosures.

Need a user's manual for a Sabrent ECS-U35 External Drive Enclosure

Page 1 Congratulations on your purchase of the new Sabrent EC-3US35 SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Hard Drive Enclosure! The enclosure provides a secure and lightweight method of transporting and transferring large quantities of data at the fastest possible USB 3.0 speeds, while still being reverse compatible with USB 1.1/2.0. Your computer will quickly detect and configure the connected Hard Drive (Plug & Play) via the USB connection, with no need to restart the computer. Blazing USB 3.0 speeds of up to 5Gbps allow you to effortlessly run files directly from your hard drive, such as, songs, videos, and databases. The aluminum casing effectively dissipates heat, and its compact sleek design with mirror finish replaces the old eyesore hard drive enclosures of old. Page 2 Transfer interface USB 3.0 (Reverse compatible with USB 2.0/1.1) Transfer rate Up to 5 Gbps (USB 3.0); Up to 480Mbps (USB 2.0) Supported HDD 3.5" Work temperature -40~65 'C Work humidity 8%~90% Storage humidity 5%~95% Operating System Windows 2000/XP/VISTA/7; MAC OS X Page 3 System Requirements ? 3.5" SATA/SATA II (Serial ATA) hard drive ? Available USB Port. ***Computer must be USB 3.0 ready to achieve full USB 3.0 Speeds. ? (Reverse compatible with USB 2.0 or 1.1 ports at reduced speeds) ? Operating Systems: Windows 2000/XP/VISTA/7; MAC OS X Page 4 1. Open the retail package and remove the Hard Drive Enclosure. 2. Insert the SATA Hard Drive into the Case. 3. Tighten the screws to secure the Hard Drive to the base. 4. Slide the base into the outer enclosure, and secure it with the screws. 5. Connect the AC power adapter to the wall and the Enclosure. 6. Turn on the switch to ON. 7. Connect the USB cable to an available USB port on the computer. Page 5 At this point the Hard Drive is completely installed. No Software or Drivers are needed to complete the connection. The Hard Drive Enclosure should appear in Device Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine Manager under the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" as "USB Mass Storage" (There should be no error icon: '?' or '!') and the Hard Drive should appear in "MY COMPUTER" as a new Drive Letter. If the Hard-Drive is brand new you may need to first format it to make the Drive Letter appear. Right-click on MY COMPUTER, Select MANAGE, Go to DISK MANAGEMENT, go to the drive information in the Right column and Right-click on the drive to Initialize, Partition, Assign Drive Letter and Format. We recommend the NTFS file system. At this point you should get the Drive letter in MY COMPUTER.

WHERE IN WINDOWS EXPLORER IS Kingwin Usb 2.0

it should show under My Computer.
Click on the start icon at the bottom left of screen, and on the right of that panel you should find My Computer. Click on that and Windows Explorer will open showing the disks and and folders available to you (at the top level). It should be there, maybe only shown as 'USB Device' or something like that, without the words 'KingWin'. If it's not there, you need to try some more involved steps. Please report if you still encounter problems
(what is your computer and O/S ?)

Kingwin ez-dock 2 dosen't support 3 tb hhd

I bought a dual drive SATA enclosure and found out after purchase that only 1 drive could be active at any one time. I had to manually switch dives on and off. The reason was that the enclosure did not have a SATA drive multiplexer in it and neither did my laptop's Esata connector. A similar issue with USB.

Hi, My 2.5" laptop hard drive

If the hard drive fails to seat itself in your docking station, then the docking station is not suited to communicate with that drive. Never break off portions of the drive as they contain the wired contacts necessary for communication. Get a USB drive extension from TigerDirect.com

HM500JI not recognized by computer (mac), a red flashes and it beeps.

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

Computer sees drive as Generic USB Device

Hi Brian, It certainly sounds like either your drive enclosure or the drive itself has some failed circuitry. You can try moving the drive into a new enclosure, if you're not sure how, take it to a local computer shop and have them transfer it into a new enclosure and test it for you. If it works in the new enclosure, you're done! If not reply back here by adding a comment with your country and city and I'll pass along a recommendation for somewhere to send the drive for data recovery. Chris

3.5" usb2.o hard drive enclosure

You do not need to install a driver for Windows XP and Vista, it is already built in. The CD may however contain optional software for initializing the hard drive the first time, and for making backups later.

Do you know if the hard disk is good? Does it spin up when you turn it on? You can hear and feel it spin up.

If this is not a SATA drive, make sure that the jumper is set correctly. Most enclosures require the drive to be jumpered for Master, sometimes for Single or CS. Check the top of the hard disk for a guide to how to set or remove the jumper.

You might try connecting it to different USB ports, some are faulty.
