I have a Uniden Bearcat BC350a scanner. Sometimes when I turn it on, it won't scan. It just has static. I try turning the squelch up or down, but it has no effect. Other times when I turn it on, it does fine. Seems to do it more on cold mornings. Any Help?

The squelch control gets rid of the hissing on a blank channel. Finda blank channel, turn up the squelch control until the hissing stops. The scanner should then scan the channels and stop on a busy one.
Look at the squelch knob. If it is turned fully counterclockwise, it is in "Auto". Turn the knob clockwise to enter the manual mode and adjust the range untill static is heard. Reverse direction until the static is no longer heard.
You'll need to program the radio frequencies into your scanner before it will scan . For a list of frequencies in Anoka County CLICK HERE . For specific programing instructions for your UNIDEN refer to your owner's manual. They will give you a step by step instruction on how to program the frequencies into your scanner memory (If you need a manual, CLICK HERE ...be sure to select the scanner option on their pull-down menu. THEN when you have the radio frequencies stored into your scanner, you'll be able to press scan and away you go. Be sure to adjust the squelch just high enough to eliminate the static...turn the squelch counterclockwise until you hear loud static, then turn Clockwise just enough to silence static... to listen to the programed channels you need to turn the squelch up to to the right and press scan it will scan all the channels and stop on the ones that people are talking on. you can down load the user manual at the bearcat scanner website.
L16 Disc coil needs adjustment, Audio is slightly off, and improper noise to DC squelch level detect used to stop scan on active channel. Set to an on freq signal like a NOAA weather channel, and useing a non-metallic tool, adjust to best sounding audio, probably less than a half turn either direction. An on freq signal moduated by 1000hertz, connect scope to speaker and adjust for highest undistorted recovered audio would be better if you could.
