You need to make sure that you get a compatible power adapter for that model. Most of Acomdata external drives use a 12v adapter, but not all. If you plug the wrong voltage into the drive, you do have the possiblity of frying your external. I'd check with your manual or post back your model number so I can look that adapter up.
This recorder is designed to be used on analog phone lines with the included adapter. If you have a digital type phone system it will not work by plugging it into the wall jack. It may even damage the recorder.
To record YOUR calls you need the handset adapter which hooks in between the handset and your phone then patches into the recorder.
Yeah, um connect it to a phone in a room that is normally isolated from traffic. Not an ideal solution but as it is a machine and has only an external mic (it doesn't have an internal mic does it?) this is the only solution really, remove all noise except phone conversations.
