The NS25 uses a much different god receiver than what is available now and will not work with your 898. What you will require is a AS GRP receiver. https://www.humminbird.com/Products/AS-GRP/
If you have put power to the gps antenna then there is going to be a problem with your gps antenna. The Humminbird gps antenna gets it power from the unit. If you have done this you will need to contact our customer service group to get it resolved. There number is 800-633-1468.
It is hard to say. If you know someone that has a unit simular to yours just slide it on to there mounting system and then you will be able to tell if it is the unit or the transducer.
gps is is just that...GLOBAL so I don't think the mountains will be the entire issue. Try in a few different spots. Make sure there is no overhead obstruction like trees and such. Reset the sounder to factory defaults, the manual will tell you how. These factory settings are made for your unit to work 'right oout of the box'. Best of luck! Mike
